I picked this up in January thanks to another tip from Tom Peruano along with a HP 14/16" saw. Getting this ready to add to the line up, took me way to long to get it out of the storage dry box. Here's the progress to today. 2" Angle for the top of the cart/base, cut, scored, bent, and welded. I will probably never make a top frame for a cart this way again, but at least now I know why. 1 1/4" angle for uprights, base, and cabinet framing. Primered, painted, plywood, and wheels. Saw placed on it and drilled for the motor mount. No pics from today yet, but I made and attached brackets to bolt it down. Switch and wiring will hopefully be done tomorrow, along with the morot mount. Then I can check saw ailgnment, bearings and whatnot. More tomorrow or Monday.

Why is it you wouldn't make another top frame that way? I think it's a good way to build one, and it looks like a fine job of it.

Why is it you wouldn't make another top frame that way? I think it's a good way to build one, and it looks like a fine job of it. 2 things I learned that when cutting out the 90 degree bits that you need to add roughly the thickness of the angle at the center to account for the radius when you bend it. That part isn't that hard to deal with, but needs to be added to the measurements or the finished top will be a bit smaller than the saw base. Not enough to really be concerned over when it's my personal saw, but definitely not compatible with OCD. Also, even with the nice 90 degree reliefs I cut with the cutoff wheel it didn't bend perfectly flat and I had to use shims and body weight to flatten and square it. I suppose if I had legs for the nice flat plate that's supposed to be my welding table top that wouldn't be an issue, and everything would be easier. Everything but moving the table around when I clear the shop to put a roof on it as soon as it cools and I hopefully find a brawny helper to drag 16' corrugated panels around. Also, I have 90 degree welding clamps I will use for the next one, to aid my excellent welding grinder operation.

Crap, Rockoonz - you guys shoulda' bought a house up here so I could hang out in the shop with you.
At least you learned about the "brake allowance" for laying out your next one... .
That thing looks good. It's almost ready for you to start feeding it rocks. That's awesome.

hummingbirdstones2 I was up there this morning dropping someone off for work, got rained on. So this afternoon I got most of the wiring done. This is the auto stop switch kit from HP, they came with both saws and I guess I'll soon have an opinion on them. Ball valve for the drain might be nice if it was 2" like the drain pipe, not working for me here but I might have a different plan for it. Hole drilled with a step drill and conduit for the switch wire. Underside. I'm not mad about the conduit bending by eyeball, could have turned out worse. Back side. All the wiring goes in the box with the receptacle, motor will have a power cord with a plug, easy if I ever need to change a motor, I can do all the wiring at a bench and not crawling around on the floor. I'm liking the new replacements for wire nuts as well. Then THIS happened, got to love those haboob dust storms, eh mohs ? Had to pack it all in quick before the doors blew off my shop. Still a bit of wiring on the motor and weld up a motor mount. Oh, have I shown my antique Monkey Wards power hack saw I use to cut the steel?

That's gonna' be a great saw. All those little details you're adding will pay off big time.

Right on Lee did you guys ever make it to the Vulture Mine that one of three on the butte list hassayampa & alamo lake and all points in between rolling Haven't done the vulture city tour yet, we should go together. One of my Wickenburg co-workers is a bit of a historian for that area, a theory is that that the gold Waltz had from time to time came from a miner who was stealing from the Vulture Mine, maybe one of the bunch who were hung. Possibly a connection to why he disappeared.

Possibly a connection to why he disappeared. Yo Lee Out by the Supers & finding Nutting to high grade besides a Gneiss Butte Soon ! My childhood rock pal Nhoj Went with the Vulture high grade theory very plausible Some German Phoenix miner/settler pocketed some gold ore To fool the local on its origins- he’d trek into the Supers- and claim and/or it was just assumed that was the source of the gold. So another legend based on some scanty facts. There was another lost treasure tale I read about at the Vulture. Supposedly there was heist of some processed ore A long posse search through the Hassayappa ensued. Well they caught the high graders. Hung them on the ironwood tree. Butte they never recovered all the loot. So it still out there to be stumbled upon. I’m on my way Ha Ha Here a picture from my self-administered tour 15 yearsago When the sign say watch your step The aren't a kidding Dangerous place to be stumbling around aimlessly ha I did it well ,,, plau it really thrills me that you mentioned the LDM ya know were on the last round up all that left is stories thrilled to be able to still recount them wish the old gang could get together one mor time now it just sad e-mails keep on and soon!

A little more done today, mostly finished motor mount and a power cord on the motor. Not to make excuses, but one reason things go slow is the welding. I have a couple largish 3/8 steel plates but have resisted putting legs on them due to not having the designated welding area with slab yet. When scouting around I found something hummingbirdstones2 might recognize, the rock platform from the monstrocity 36 inch saw. Relatively portable and very flat. So then someone showed up to inspect the work. drocknut Diane, this is the feral cat I told you and Frank about at the show, looks like he has decided he's the shop cat and I don't get to argue the point, Cheeks now owns the property. Between finding food for him and having to work this evening I didn't get as far as I wanted, maybe tomorrow.

Rockoonz - I wouldn't have recognized that piece of plate. It's a LOT cleaner than when I saw it.. !

A little update. Motor mount is installed and motor attached, still want the tension adjusting rod but it would work without it, It is now "functional" but I discovered a few things that have it on hold. While checking blade alignment, which is less than 0.005" so not needing adjustment, I found out that the blade nut does not clear the bottom of the moving vice jaw, plus the weird stepped blade flange interferes as well. I could cut some "stops" for the cross feed and remove some side travel to prevent disaster, or I could get some decent parallel ground plate at about 3/16" and put it between carriage and vice to lift it above the nut and keep all the side travel for potentially 1 or 2 more slabs at full travel. The flange is pretty worn anyway, but the only source of aluminum ones I know of is backordered and I won't use steel. I guess for now making that motor adjuster rod and maybe a belt guard while I wait for a flange and decide which route to take to fix the interference. In the meantime started the next saw base, but that will be a different thread since it will involve a lot more fabrication that I am not at all ready to take on. But a sneak preview.... Welds are getting marginally better, found better glasses to wear under the helmet. Less grinder time is good.

And never mind, maybe... I had forgotten Covington for the flanges, will call tomorrow. I was going to go with HP but this should be a lot faster. And I can also cut new soft jaws out of red oak for the vice since the table saw is now fixed too.
