My latest--cabochon picked out by an artist friend who was visiting, and is very much a minimalist. She did a lovely pastel of my aging and semi-senile dog, and this was a small "thank you." I would have liked to "decorate" this one a bit more (without covering any of the amazing pattern) but stayed as simple as possible in respect for her preferences. I couldn't resist the beads, though! Jasoninsd kindly gave me instructions for reducing size, so we will see if I can do it! Picture front and back, for those that like backs with wires going everywhere. Warning! I think a *slight* amount of liver of sulphur crept into this rhyolite.

Susan, that is beautiful! I love how you snuck in some "fancy" with the beads. Just the right touch. Copper is the right choice, too. Sometimes, when you are doing custom work, it is difficult to put aside what your mind's eye wants for a stone versus what the client wants.
What is the stone? It's gorgeous.

I'll start with the cab...the shape was SPOT ON for the pattern in that piece! Gorgeous...and very eye-catching with the way it truly flows! I love the addition of the elongated beads in the bail like that! I've done a couple wraps with beads there...and I really like the way it looks! You did a fantastic job of keeping the front of the cab clear of the wires to allow for the amazing patterns to show! And way to go on resizing the pictures!! They came out fantastic!!

Tela, I think I got this in a bunch of saw scraps that I got before I got the cab machine and saved it--too pretty to tumble! I think it is banded rhyolite (it's probably a Mohs 6, or between 5 and 6. I was *really* hesitant to tumble it in steel shot, but I did, and it survived. Yup, this cab has been around a long time; it was one of my earlier ones. Diane picked it out of my "cab stash" and I didn't realize how much it looked like an artist's palette until I was wrapping it. Thanks for the compliment!

LOL - I just take good enough pictures to hide the flaws! LOL I'm always amazed when someone can capture the "flow" of the pattern with the flow of the shape as well as you did. It's one of the things that I find the most fun about cabbing...looking for the shape that will work the best for that!

Very nice Susan, susand24224 , your binding are neat & nice, and the beads in the bail compliment quite nicely (I'll have to try that technique). Nicely done, I hope your artist friend treasures it.
But why haven't you shown us the pastel of your doggie friend Patty

I'm delighted to, Patty, any chance to brag about my friend's work is welcome! Maybe some of you remember Connrock, who was quite active on RTH a few years back. "Homer" is named for his beagle, who died a few days before I adopted her.
