When I purchased the 24 saw a couple of months ago I got a lot of other items too. I got the homemade rack tumbler going yesterday with a 12lb Thumler barrel on it. It sures seems like a lot of material after only using 3lb barrels. I'm supposed to get belts tonight so I should have the Thumler model B running. Then I'll need to make a decision. I have the homemade one that takes 2-12lb barrels (It came with 2 Thumler barrels. I have the Thumler B and a Loretone QT12 that also has 2-6lb barrels with it. I just don't see ever using that much tumbler capacity. I like the idea of the Loretone because of the 2 different size barrels. I've not used any of these in the past but the Thumlers barrels just seem sturdier and less likely to have major leakage. Now I just have to go home and check the RPM. Seems like it was spinning pretty quickly.

I'm curious about the differences in these two barrels. Is it just older and newer versions?

rockbrain Whatcha filling those things with?! Everything I've got! I started resorting my beach rocks. There's a lot with pits that I need to work on but there were a lot that are too big for the 3 pounders. A lot of jaspers agates. Some slab trimming, rutilated quartz. I tried to keep everything a similar hardness but a little serpentine may have slipped in. It's a lot of material and grit. The barrels are pretty heavy when they're full. I wouldn't want it dumped on my carpet.

The thumlers 12lb will eventually wear through the cover. The barrel is ok, the lid is the weak point.
The Lortone barrels will be less problematic compared to the thumler 12lb.
Model Bs are fairly bulletproof. Takes A LOT of gas buildup to pop a leak. From experience 🤪
