I came across their facebook website through RTH: www.facebook.com/calderarockshop/ and email Leanne to buy roughs directly, which is slightly cheaper than buying from their etsy shop. I received the box today and thought it might be worth sharing with you some of the roughs I got. All the roughs are big (at least 1lb), and I will need to cut them to make tumble pieces. Gary Green Jasper - I love their colors

I also got several "79 bed thundereggs" which aren't worth taking picture until I cut them open. These are my first thundereggs and I am excited.

I agree with Tela. The Gary Green (aka Larsonite - aka Freedom Jasper) has some really nice colors and patterns! I've never heard of Totem Jasper...

I could be mistaken but the "Totem" jasper actually looks like Tahoma jasper

The only pictures of "Totem Jaspers" that I could found are from the seller. The following are the pictures they posted on etsy: I will cut my rough one day to see how it looks inside...

I could be mistaken but the "Totem" jasper actually looks like Tahoma jasper I looked up Tahoma Jasper and it seems Tahoma Jasper is found in "the crystal clear waters (no pun intended) of Washington state’s Greenwater river" or "Mt. Rainier in Washington state", while all the jaspers I got from the seller were claimed to be mined from McDermitt Nv. Visually Tahoma Jasper seems to have more defined bands. I won't complain at all if my rough looks like Tahoma Jasper

Yeah I also saw this somewhere: "Gary Green Jasper, also known as Larsonite or McDermitt Bog Agate and more recently Caldera Jasper and now Freedom Jasper, is a beautiful greenish layered and swirled material formed when silica-rich fluids filtered through rhyolite ash, precipitating jasper along with other elements that give it the unique colors. Originally, the tight layering of the rhyolite was thought to be petrified wood from a swamp full of trees, cattails, algae and other material was buried by a volcanic event about 12 million years ago. However, recent research indicates that no plant material is present."

I also got a 3-pound "Amethyst Sage Agate" It does look a little purple although the picture can barely catch the purpleness.

I also got two pieces of "McDermitt Sunset brecciated jaspagate" Pictures taken from the most interesting sides of each piece: Rough 1 Rough 2

Leanne always has some nice material and tends to treat her customers really well! We've always been happy when buying from them.

Beautiful material. I've been buying Tahoma rough and slabs for 20 years. It is best described as a jasper/agate. Each piece has varying amounts of jasper and agate where the agate is clear and the jasper provides the color. It is also referred to as seam agate. The Tahoma is found in a seam between the matrix. Most usable areas tend to be narrow, unless cut with the seam instead of against the seam. Cutting with the seam produces layers that can be thick or thin. Cutting cabs with thin layers doesn't work most of the time.

Classic Tahoma pattern across the seam: With the seam that barely works: This is the goal when cutting with the seam: The results are not technique related, they are material related. When cutting against the seam the results are known. With the seam it is the bands and there thickness.

I was planning on stopping by her shop when we stayed overnight, but we ended up hitting the road hours late and once we reached MdDermitt there was emergency trailer repairs and an invasion of Mormon Crickets. There's always next year I hope.
