khara was asking about stainless steel wire. Here are a few. As you can see- it looks a lot like silver. It is difficult to work and near impossible to recover from a wrong bend. I think it hurts most people's fingers- hurts mine. I believe these are all 20g.

It does look like the best Crown of Silver, but it's actually Damascus Steel. Cool, huh?

It looks Groovy! Is the Damascus steel less messy to polish than psilomelane? (I love that word, even if that is not it, lol)

(I love that word, even if that is not it, lol) I purchased that one- at a steep price, I might add, but I fell in love. It made me want to try it. So, I got some damascus and tried it. It was actually very easy to cab and not TOO messy- certainly not as messy as psilomelane. The quality of my cabs was not very good owing to the cheap damascus that I got.

Amazing Tela, rockjunquie , every time you post more photos of wraps, I see yet more techniques you use (and I want to try). The Damascus Steel sure is flashy, but I really like that wrap, a perfect design for that stone. SS looks nice, I like how crisp some of the wire bends look, but I bet it's hard on the hands. Somehow I bet "dead soft" SS wire is way harder than copper. But cheaper than Sterling !
I might have to try it out.
Thanks for the show, Patty

I don't think it comes in dead soft. It's just plain spring hard. It is a challenge, but sometimes it's what's called for.

Wow. From a visual standpoint, that really is hard to discern from silver! A person really has to be on their "A" game to be working with stainless steel - I think I'll wait a bit!! Gorgeous designs...and of course that last cab is crazy cool!!

Gorgeous designs...and of course that last cab is crazy cool!! In person, it has that steely look and looks less like the softer glow of silver. I have gotten requests for it, so I have some. Stainless steel men's jewelry is popular.

rockjunquie didn't you make the one you cabbed into a piece for your grandson or something? I vaguely remember you doing something like that. BTW, they're all gorgeous and kudos to you for dealing with the finger pain!

My memory seems to be much less than it used to be. I was concerned about it actually and then I realized that I'm just getting old. LOL!!!

I am in awe of what you have done with that wire. I tried one time, and the results were not pretty; they weren't even passable. I've never tried again, although this is inspirational. I can't pick a favorite.

Oh rockjunquie I didn’t see this until now! Not sure how I missed the notification. These are all very nice! Thank you for taking the time to post them. It sounds like ss is a material to try after getting a lot of practice in with copper. I just really like the idea of it for some stones. Like that Damascus one, it is just fitting. 👍

Psilomelane is like grinding hard, black, sticky paint. It turns everything black. Especially your cuticles.
