I just saw a YT video about breaking up old ceramic tile to use as tumbling media after tumbling it for a couple of weeks. Yay or nay?

Tho I would tumble it by itself with grit first until the broken edges are smoothed out, so that they dont scratch the rocks.

It would be rather slick compared to unglazed porcelain. Might interfere with grit adherence for one.

I actually tried this last year when we remodeled one of our bathrooms. I was excited to use the tile in place of ceramic media in my vibe. So, I broke some up and put it in my rotary tumbler to smooth the sharp edges. Most of it just tumbled away. There were tiny gritty pieces left in the tumbler, too. These were thinly glazed tiles, so maybe that layer was the issue. These tiles were very hard (they were TOUGH) to break apart; but they just disintegrated in the tumbler. So, it didn't work with these tiles very well.

These tiles were very hard (they were TOUGH) to break apart; but they just disintegrated in the tumbler... That's what happened when I tried it also. Since the scratch test of a rock can be done on the unglazed surface of a tile, or the underside of a toilet tank cover, I was worried that these broken tiles were much harder than Mohs 7 so would scratch up the whole batch. They disappeared just like the time I tried putting in a bunch of limestone road gravel.
