New to tumbling and rock collecting. I have created a couple rock monsters in my brother and dad. 1st I noticed a little black shiny area in the dolstone surrounding a property i care for. Flint! Midnight black! I read a bit and became interested in other quartz among the limestone in my driveway. Suddenly i am smashing rocks everywhere just to see whats inside. Visted a quarry in wainfleet niagara collected some fossils. Then Thanksgiving rolls around and i find myself visiting abandoned mines and digging under boulders in bancroft ontario (the mineral capital of the world) i got cool stuff over 3 days. My brother and dad joined me. Now they are off hiking from abandoned mine to mine collecting for me. I lay tile so i have a tile saw and wanted to know if this was the tool to use which brought me here.

Dance with the lady that you came with --' which is to say cut with the tile until you get a lapidary blade for it or move to lapidary saw without capabilities. Welcome E. You are on a wonderful road.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I agree with Tom about going with what ya got until you want something different/better! I started reading Tom's reply and thought he was going to say "Dance with the Devil..." - which may apply here as well! LOL

Welcome from NE Ohio! Wishing my state had more to offer in the way of rockhounding. You have Ohio flint! Yes! This is true and my understanding that its quite nice . I'll have to figure out where I can go to look for some - I found some guides on here, but they are a little old so not sure the locations are still open...

rocknewb101 nethers farm is your spot, one of the vendors at our show last weekend was there within the last year and people on this board have done get togethers there. I have a very nice slab of it from the show, I'll get a pic of it over the weekend.

I had NO idea the flint was so stunningly beautiful. Thank you for sharing the link. It would be so cool if I could actually find my own instead of purchasing. I see a trip in my future
