I have some lovely bits of black & white jasper material with tiny crystal voids throughout. In the slabs, the clear crystal looks very cool. When I work on the stones the clear crystals turn brown from all the slurry. How can I get them clean again? Some voids I will have to fill with epoxy, but that's difficult to do ahead of time as several lurk below the surface of the slab. It's a nice solid material so it doesn't need stabilizing all over, but some of the voids are in inconvenient places near edges. I tried soaking in an alcohol/water/dish soap solution.

Use a toothbrush or similar size brush to try scrubbing the gunk out while holding the slab under running water. That should get rid of most of it. A textile spot cleaning gun would work great for this. If you have one, a water pick toothbrush might be strong enough too

If scrubbing doesn't work, ultrasonic cleaners are great at cleaning crystal pockets of slurry. I often tumble stones with crystal pockets, and I clean them in my ultrasonic cleaner in between stages - you should see the clouds of grit come out! You'll definitely want to soak your piece before trying scrubbing or an ultrasonic - that dried grit can be like cement!
