This is the Malachite, what I was told it was, that was gifted to me. I want to know if 1. Can it be safely polished on my lap? 2. If it is how do I stay safe? 3. Would you shine it or leave it as gifted

Precautions should be taken, such as wearing gloves, masks and goggles when performing lapidary work on malachite." sweethoneylife.com/malachite-101/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=malachite-101#:~:text=Because%20malachite%20contains%20a%20high,on%20contact%20with%20the%20skin. yesdirt.com/is-malachite-toxic/So my take away, Wear your Nurse PPE when Wet polishing it and if you get any of the slurry on your skin wash it off and dont breath the dust and you should be totally fine to polish it.

With proper safety measures, it can be cut, cabbed and polished.

I will have to read read read before I do anything with it and figure out how to dispose of the water.

As far as the water goes, you could use it to kill grass in your driveway or if you have unwanted mulberry trees popping up all over like we do down here in Ohio. I wouldnt dump it in a lake or anything but down a sewer drain wouldnt be a big deal.

We've cut malachite before. Gloves and a mask are good. I used to set up cross-ventilation to direct mist out through a window.
Don't ever dry-grind it. A friend of ours almost died from inhaling the dry dust when he started learning to cut decades ago. After he learned to use lots of water on his grinder he never had any other problems.
Don't stress over the leftover water. Products like root killers are sold all over, and they're usually copper sulfate. Copper is a natural element. Returning a little of it to nature in your neighborhood isn't going to cause any problems.
