Manhattan mine lemon opal, apparently this stuff is fluorescent under uv light. the cabs came in at 2.45 and 2.5 carats. My jaw is on the floor because I have studied all I can find on the history of the Manhattan Mine and I had no idea that any kind of opal was found there. That's got to be super rare stuff!

Beautiful pair! Are you going to make earring out of them?

Wow! That is super rare as is the beautiful lace agate from that mine. I believe it is all buried under overburden now. Apparently the mine became part of a huge open pit gold mine - which is now a lake. I have a hunk of the lace agate - it was lost in the move to Napa for quite a while but I found it again.

Beautiful pair! Are you going to make earring out of them? Thanks! Earrings are the plan. I’m thinking to pair them with amethyst or chrysoprase, can’t decide. Chrysoprase would be divine. These are so lovely!!!

I’d love to see that lace agate rough, who would have thought something like that could be found in the coastal range. Yeah, this exactly. The piece I have indicates the seam was at least 3 inches wide. Aside from typical Franciscan roast beef types of jasper, there is an almost complete lack of 'interesting' material found in the surrounding area. You would think there would be some agate float down valley at the north end of Lake Berryessa. We've been up there a few times, driving the around the OHV area and trying to find clues of how a seam agate could have been found in one location but show no traces on the surrounding areas.

Agree with rockjunquie. The Chrysoprase would be fabulous with that yellow!

The rock identification section of this site has an agate database Lowell Foster built and there are pics of Manhatten Mine Lace included under the California agate section. Really a beatuful type of lace.
