I like to hear opinions on which machine is best in the opinion of the members here and the pro's and cons of each

Definitely the 3 head sphere machines are easier to deal with, the 2 head machines have to be coaxed into keeping the random motion going that you need to get a nicely rounded sphere.

As Rockoonz said, I also found the three head machines are much simpler to make actual round spheres. The two head machines require a lot more vigilance and adjusting to ensure you are making round balls and not slightly oblong ones. The three headed machines also cut and polish faster, which was always a factor for me. I like to bang them out quickly.

Wow! Would have never thought of using a core bit that way. Good resourcfulness, but that is a lot of work to get a tiny sphere

@hefty herb some of the first spheres were finished with cups filled with grit slurry mounted on flat laps, using your hand on top of it to create the random pattern. An example to the extreme starts around the 8m mark of the video below, though the entire video is pretty intriguing.
