Hi. We spent a night up in Llano TX and got a nice haul of quartz from both Llano and Mason. I have some in the tumbler from our previous trip, I'll post in 4-5 weeks when it comes out of polish. TX Quartz

That’s a nice haul! What’s next for them, an iron out bath?

jasoninsd Thanks! ashley Don't really know yet. This is sort of a family hobby that got a little out of hand I guess haha I am going to tumble some pieces, and if they turn out nice I'll see if anyone is interested in trading me some of their local stones for some TX quartz. Thanks for the idea about the Iron out bath. I never heard of that before, but now I'll try that on a few pieces. Cheers!

dillonfYou’re welcome! Yeah, I think you would like the looks better if you soaked them in some iron out and got some of the red off of them. Let us all see how they turn out when you tumble some!

Hopefully you got a small piece or 2 of that Texas topaz in there somewhere.

ashley Will do quartzilla We did dig up some small chunks of crystal like "cubes" in milky white and yellowish, but I can't really tell the difference between quartz and topaz. We put them aside until I can have someone smarter than me check them out. No blues though

quartzilla I did a little research and these 2 pieces scratch glass and have straight cleavage. They also have a very different sheen than the quartz. I'm not 100%, but they look promising in terms of being Topaz. One is the size of a drink coaster and about 3/4 inch thick, and the other is a little piece. I'll test some more as I come across them. Potential Topaz

Here is the first set of pieces I got out of polish. I was pleasantly surprised with the range of colors, and they took a nice shine. I have a bunch of this stuff, mostly large pieces that would need to be processed before tumbling. If anyone would like to trade some of your local stone for some TX quartz reach out.
