I wanted to thank you Jason, jasoninsd , you were 100% right. I read your post to Tom & he said, hey we have one of those lights in the shed-
Well it's installed next to my cabber now & it's pretty amazing how much better I can see what's going on at a quick glance.
Yeah, Yeah, I have that 10 power little loupe that I've used on problem stones.
But having this mounted right next to my cabber means I'm using it all the time.
Thanks for the tip. Patty

Patty, that's awesome you had one on hand...and even more awesome you're putting it to use! I truly think it was one of the best "investments" I've made with regards to equipment!!

One of those garage sale finds from years ago, finally put to use ( we actually have 2 of them !)
I mean I could curse you jasoninsd , that cabbing is taking longer (if that's possible) BUT I'm seriously seeing stuff I never did, so it's definitely helping. Best tip yet ! Thanks, Patty

Thanks, Patty I had a reply typed out...then Proboards wouldn't connect...lost what I typed...dangit! The time I spend on the 280 and 600 is definitely increased (or "magnified" LOL) using the magnification...but the time it saves me on the 1200 and 3000 makes up for it! Sometimes it makes me nervous how LITTLE time I spend on the 1200 and 3000...but it seems to be working "as is" for now! LOL

All this talk of magnifier lights on this and the previous thread encouraged me to order one of those lights off Amazon last night. It was perfect timing as the junky light I'd been using forever started cutting out when I was cabbing last evening.
I guess I'll be joining y'all in the magnifier light club lol. I'm curious to see what I've been missing without any magnification.

I'm curious to see what I've been missing without any magnification. Lots of scratches you never would have believed were still there &
then wondered why you weren't getting the polish you wished !

Then it seems I should get one too, to get my tumbled stones examined carefully....

liveoak I just ordered myself some magnifying safety glasses, like reading glasses but safety style. I didn’t even know they existed, never used reading glasses, my parents suggested them. They just came today so I’m not sure how I’ll like them for cabbing with but this magnifying light looks good too. I have the optivizor but that does get heavy on the neck so it’s a lot of on and off action which can get old.

liveoak jasoninsd Do you guys happen to know what magnification your lights are that you are finding useful? Looking online these are available like reading glasses, as low as 1.75 magnification, and then also larger like 5x and 10x.

Mine was a flea market find & there is no markings to tell.
Maybe Jason got his new ?
I do know that with my 2.5 reading glasses on (or my optivisor) it lets me see every little thing I never would have believed was there in the first place.
It's a good addition .

Looking online these are available like reading glasses, as low as 1.75 magnification, and then also larger like 5x and 10x. The one I picked up from Menards (it's like Home Depot) has two lenses which are interchangeable...a 3X and a 5X. I've only used the 3X and it is great. I think the 5X would be too much. I actually do all my work on the wheels while looking through the lens. It does get sprayed with water every once in awhile...but it's never gotten inside and I've got a paper towel waiting in the wings to wipe it off as soon as it get spashed. After I "think" I'm done with a wheel, then I'll drop down the Optivisor and inspect through the magnifying lamp with the Optivisor on as well.

The visor just flips up and down when you need to use it. Maybe you have some other type of magnifier?
