It is not what the world gives me In honor, praise or gold It is what I give the world So others do unfold
If by my work through life I can Another soul unfold Then I have done what cannot be Made good, by praise or gold
One tiny thought in a tiny word May give a great one birth And, if that thought was caused by me,
I lived a life of worth.

Dare I get all philosophical and ask what that poem means to you?! Maybe it's me without a kiddo but there are plenty who need a little nudge in the right direction more ambition and energy but lacking common sense
Just want everyone to do their best with the short time we have I've had mentors outside of my circle who have passed life's wisdom
Just trying to keep it going so we keep this ship sailing
I picked up this book at some off hand hole in the wall name your price thrift shop worth the dollar

“Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.” ― Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900) Can’t say I’ve read Dorian Grey And only slightly familiar w/ Oscar Wilde Be real disappointed if that quote is misattributted So much of that b.s. going on Value & worth Worthy subjects Land us in the cave real quick ha It’s a shame That we can’t be on the same page Makes the the world of around, I suppose A worthy question I’ve came up with And have pondered for awhile now Is how can reasonable people= Be so far apart on belief? Of course, reasonable and beliefs Therein is a worthy study ha ha

On Giving
Kahlil Gibran - 1883-1931
Then said a rich man, Speak to us of Giving.
And he answered:
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
For what are your possessions but things you keep and guard for fear you may need them tomorrow?
And tomorrow, what shall tomorrow bring to the overprudent dog burying bones in the trackless sand as he follows the pilgrims to the holy city?
And what is fear of need by need itself?
Is not dread of thirst when your well is full, the thirst that is unquenchable?
There are those who give little of the much which they have—and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.
And there are those who have little and give it all.
These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.
There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.
And there are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism.
And there are those who give and know not pain in giving, nor do they seek joy, nor give with mindfulness of virtue;
They give as in yonder valley the myrtle breathes its fragrance into space.
Through the hands of such as these God speaks, and from behind their eyes. He smiles upon the earth.
It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked, through understanding;
And to the open-handed the search for one who shall receive is joy greater than giving.
And is there aught you would withhold?
All you have shall some day be given;
Therefore give now, that the season of giving may be yours and not your inheritors’.
You often say, “I would give, but only to the deserving.”
The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture.
They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish.
Surely he who is worthy to receive his days and his nights, is worthy of all else from you.
And he who has deserved to drink from the ocean of life deserves to fill his cup from your little stream.
And what desert greater shall there be, than that which lies in the courage and the confidence, nay the charity, or receiving?
And who are you that men should rend their bosom and unveil their pride, that you may see their worth naked and their pride unabashed?
See first that you yourself deserve to be a giver, and an instrument of giving.
For in truth it is life that gives unto life—while you, who deem yourself a giver, are but a witness.
And you receivers—and you are all receivers—assume no weight of gratitude, lest you lay a yoke upon yourself and upon him who gives.
Rather rise together with the giver on his gifts as on wings;
For to be overmindful of your debt, is to doubt his generosity who has the freehearted earth for mother, and God for father.
From The Prophet (Knopf, 1923). This poem is in the public domain.

Interesting Chad And your good w/ the Soctratic questioning What is dogma? Besides backward thinking amgod well that wasn’t rhetorically fair Kant divinely define dogma ! only got a vague idea I do agree though, that a necessary component of dogmatic thought it would seem: would be connected to some sort of hierarchical organizational structure. That structure having a set of beliefs or ways If ya prefer What occurs many times is: an individual in that set structure re-thinks these- ways or beliefs- then w/ new imagined insights a pair a dime shift ? reforms others into another dogmatic sub group. Hence we got thousands of groups believing loosely the same thing dogmatically in a different ways & not agreeing on the core ways O the humanity! Ha Ha That not to say its all bad Its improbable not be swayed to some ideal. We are born into a certain History that precedes us, I think Anyway pause there because I can gohs on&on on&on… even been told I ramble on ha ha For what it worth…mostly Another issue is cultist thinking...

jasoninsd Ahh, that little book is so good, every section is thoughtful!
I don't give enough to be honest, straying the line between cynical and self important.
A fine line indeed...
Gotta have it though mohs,
We move forward together, right or wrong
Dogma is central to nearly every concern
Like crashing waves against the wall of old discarded ideals
Always forwards, then receding back the energy remains
I have hope for humanity in the small spaces
Takes time, lots of time and pain to get it right keep passing the torch to the next generation

Son Of BeachYou seem like an optimistic pessimist if that makes sense! Is that a possibility? Can you be both? I think so…

Son Of Beach You seem like an optimistic pessimist if that makes sense! Is that a possibility? Can you be both? I think so… Acrually a great call I'm a bit of a walking contradiction at times. I'm open around others and guarded by myself. I'm a reserved and not overly enthusiastic about much, but I'll get in your face if needed. Can be easily disgusting or surprsing depending on the mood. But I try to be as painfully honest as possible, not always a winning combo for myself or others The light is as bright in the shadows

People today hide behind "politically correct" far too often...

ashleyOptimistic pessimist? Sarcastic optimist? Extroverted introvert? There is something about reaching beyond what you expect, treating someone as if they were the best them that I could imagine. I have had a few mentors who were quite good at it, can't say I do it as well. Kind of like typing out a thought like this with the limited vocabulary of lowering blood sugar at bedtime when eating something is not advisable.
