One of my fav finds is a piece of Green amygdaloidal Tholeiitic basalt according to the geologist I contacted, it almost looks like jade, tho it wont be amygdaloidal when I finally get around to finishing tumbling it lol

mohs I think your piece looks like the aphanitic basalt he mentioned. It's all over the beach comes in all slightly different flavors, some more shiny or textured than others.

I was told the blackish/grey basalt surrounding the large ancient volcanic shaft at the Woodward Ranch was 800 feet thick and loaded with those beautiful agate filled amygdules ranging from 1" to 20" in size the whole way down. Only the ones at the surface are laying around loose because of slow erosion of the basalt. Those nodules are famous for their tree like plumes contained in translucent chalcedonies. The big nodules were all picked early by the first lucky collectors. Time to wait for more slowly advancing erosion of the basalt before more will be exposed. Maybe some of the basalts in your area have such agate nodules in them Son Of Beach. These large ones a hard to find any more. They had/have a display of larger early find nodules. Famous for the black plumes but they also have most colors of plumes. Must depend on the chemicals leached in from the basalt ?
