So I'm still experimenting with weaving & thought I came up with a nice simple bezel and wouldn't you know that it wasn't deep enough to hold the thin stone .  So I pondered on it for a couple of days, tried a couple of things I hated & then took out & then came up with this. What I ended up doing was to make the bail wrapped & then use the excess bail wires to weave another back border
onto the existing bezel, to make the wrap deep enough after all.
Of course it was a learning experience & I can see a couple of flaws, but overall I'm pretty happy I pulled it off. The worst thing though is that my excess bail wires were maybe 1/8" - 3/16 " short on the bottom back. Close but no cigar. I've tried to think on how to camouflage it - but didn't, and it was way too much work to take out & re-do it, so since it's on the back & it's for me, and the stone is quite secure, it's a keeper. My only other problem now, is how to wrap the matching earrings ! ? Lesson- cut the wires MUCH longer than you ever imagined, if you don't have an exact design COMPLETELY worked out. liveoak I think it looks very nice. 👍 Can’t tell that you had trouble with it and had to troubleshoot. The copper looks great with the Llanite.

Can’t tell that you had trouble with it and had to troubleshoot Thank you khara, that was the nicest compliment of all  Now if I can pull off the earrings & you say the same..........

Thanks dillonf. Agreed, the llanite is nice with the blue crystals. I was initially worried that the base wouldn't polish up as nice as the blue crystals, but in the end it worked. Thanks for looking, Patty |

Thank you Tela, I wanted analysis - and knew you would come through. Yes, my cab & earrings in the wings to match.
I THINK the back hammered wires will be OK, I guess I'll see. I bent them to be some what down under tension,tight against the back of the cab,so I think they will work long term- time will tell.
Definitely a learning experience - trying to find my own way in all of this & keep thinking of all those different shaped cabs in the roaming wire,
so I better get up to speed quick like !

Stay tuned I'll have to get a photo of the earring cabs - only just tried to start on that wrap last night.
OK, so you got me wondering, so I pulled the cab back out to re-look at the back,
and the flattened bail wires are actually below the level of the side, so I think they will be fine.
Especially since they are thin & flat. We'll see, but I have even more confidence now that I re-looked at it.
Thanks again for the analysis. I am trying to learn here, so appreciate anything pointed out.

Do you have a pair of these? smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FZPGUBI ? They are my secret weapon. What I would do is just baaaaarely turn the tip of the ends under with these. The pliers CAN leave marks. You need to condition them and be careful with them. |
