That is common chalcedony and the purple looks like fluorite. Chert is opaque as it is a subcategory of jasper, which is a chalcedony, which is a quartz. I found something similar here in Southern Nevada with little pockets of purple fluorite in common chalcedony.

Both fluorite and amethyst are found in chert from time to time. Hardness test time.
