This may be an impossible question to answer, but maybe someone can lead me in the right direction...... I bought several milk jugs of grit at an auction - some were labeled, and some were not. The previous owner had a vibratory tumbler and a vibratory flat lap. I have three jugs of this odd black and white grit - see the two colors through the jug? It's not even mixed well. Here it is (left) beside some 36 SiC grit (which is silver like all my other SiC grits) It seems to be many different sizes and has some larger brown crumbly pieces in it, too Here are some photos I tried to get through my loupe, showing the different colors - there are some yellow pieces, too

Thanks! I wasn't sure how to show the features of this grit, so I was worried about my pics.

I wonder if it is SC grit mixed with quartz sand to make it look like there is more grit than is really the case.

I can't answer anything about the grit...
But...I take pics on my phone through my loupe as well. One thing I figured out...if I zoom the shot into 2X (nothing more or it's too much magnification and is all blurry), and hold the loupe right up to the camera lens on my phone, it gets rid of that "fisheye" effect and takes pretty good macro shots. I do have to move the camera a little bit back and forth toward the object to get it to find the focus...but I do eventually find the sweet spot.

Thanks- that is definitely something I’ll try again- you can see some amazing stuff though a loupe!

Looks like SiC to me, It can come in differnt colors, I have saw it for sale on some china sites in red and green. The white could be Quartz or AO possibly not sure on that. But try it on a load of leaverite and see what happens.

My guess would be it is recycled grit from the vib tumbler.

I had thought I might put just a few scoops in one of my tumblers the next time I open one, just to see what happens.

Would recycled grit be that coarse and sharp?

Would recycled grit be that coarse and sharp? I'm not sure - doesn't SiC break down and get smaller but remain sharp, while AlOx gets smaller and rounded? Anyway, if he saved his used grit, I would think it would be all the same size.....unless he mixed it. And why would he do that? Food for thought

Would recycled grit be that coarse and sharp? I have tumbled in coarse for 4-6 weeks and still come out with virtually untouched coarse. (That is an 80# drum)
