Oh Stoner, those are so pretty! It is such a shame that you are having problems with some of them. I wish you only the best as you try to finish them.

Very nice... looks a lot like what I have been picking up. Xena, how did you do the black ones? Mine came out ok, though all mine could use a little more time in polish... I just put a load of just "black" ones (columbia basalt, i believe) in course, so we'll see how they turn out.

Hi all. Thanks for the comments. I forgot to mention in my recipe "in coarse grind for an unknown number of years". Xenas-the black stones are always the most difficult ones to obtain a shine, seems they're the softest. I almost feel like I was cheating by doing this batch since they went into the barrel the same shape as they came out. Silicon carbide just doesn't match up to good ole Mother Nature.

Wow, for just 4 days in polish so far, some of those already have a knockout shine! Isn't there some law against being able to skip coarse grind like that? .... the ocean is a much better tumbler than a river -- I don't think I've ever found any river rock here that was smooth enough that I could entirely skip coarse grind.

Those are nice. How big of a tumbler are you using? Jeff

Hey Ed, those are going to look great with a shine! You know, if you could just add a little snowatite to the batch, they would shine like carzy! Ron

Stoner - That's some good lookin' beach rock, nicer than I've ever seen on a beach. No wonder they called it Eureka!

Hey Ron-NO THANKS-don't need any snowatite out here, I think we got just enough "Sunite" to make them shine up nicely. This is the first time I found beach rocks that were smooth enough to skip the coarse grind. I think you're right Rich, I definetly found it with these. Did you know that is our state motto? I wish I had picked up more.
Jeff-I use thumlers 3lb barrels on my homemade tumbler base. I have 4"ABS pipe barrels that I use for my coarse grind and the Thumler barrels for the rest of the cycles.
