In this post and in this post, I included Amazon links and when you click them they don't work. I use uBlock Origin and have narrowed it down to being blocked due to a redirect to mybettermb.com. First I get redirected to redirect.viglink.com which gets initially blocked but I click the temporarily allow. This usually works and the external content gets loaded. This happens any time I try to load a link that goes to an external site. But then, only for Amazon links (as far as I can tell from limited testing), after the viglink redirect, I get redirected again to mybettermb.com.  Generally speaking, I am okay with viglink. I have it blocked by default, but I will override it on a per link basis. This other site however, I had never heard of. I had done just some basic searching. It seems like a fairly new site. But it's been blocked by several anti-virus companies as being associated with malvertising. Even if I override the uBlock origin block, my antivirus blocks it anyway. I have no idea what kind of control the admins will have over this, because it might actually be viglink doing this second redirect. I don't really know. But I think it needs to be looked into. I find it very concerning. |

I'm tagging Tommy for you. He's the one that will have to try to figure it out. Give him some time. I run Ublock I think and I've definitely had some links from the forum that wouldn't go thru and just cancel out all together. Just to add a little... |

I just manually copy any external url from RTH and paste it to the browser. I understand it will be a pain for the phone users.

I suppose you could do that, but it looks like the presented URL is already replaced with a viglink URL. So you have top copy and paste the URL and then un-embed the actual URL from the redirect.  Though this doesn't seem to be the case for all embedded URLs so I'm not really sure what's going on with that. I'm also not all that worried about the redirects to viglink anyway. It's the 2nd redirect that only seems to happen to Amazon links that bothers me. |

I find it very concerning. thanks for your patience, this morning has been my first opportunity to take a look at things from my computer. To first answer your question, the Admins of Proboards software forums do not have ANY control over the software at the Viglink level. I have installed the uBlock extension for Chrome and tested the same URL you posted and I'm getting the same result with the attempted redirect to beta.mybettermb. When I open the same URL in a new Chrome window the attempted redirect does not occur. Weirdly, I have test posted several other Amazon links and have only found the usual Viglink redirect. I have posted about the situation on the Proboards support forum so I will update this thread as I learn anything. |
