Hello all!
I’m looking into buying my husband a tumbler for Christmas. Not sure what to buy. He has a bunch of rocks he found in a mine including garnet, rubies and sapphires. I hear sapphires and rubies are difficult to tumble. Can someone recommend a tumbler that would be good for me to buy even if he doesn’t decide to tumble the difficult ones.
Thank u!

Welcome to RTH from Virginia!
I think you can't go wrong with a Lortone 3a, but everyone has opinions. It is a great starter tumbler, though. The Rock Shed and Kingsley North are good places to shop. The Rock Shed sells a good grit kit.

Welcome from Washington state, our state gem is petrified wood. I recommend the Lortone 3A or 33B as well, or the bigger models for larger amounts of rocks. You'll have to search the internet to find shops that have them in stock though. Garnets are fun to tumble.

Start with a Lortone 33B, that way he can have two barrels rolling instead of one and a great way to get into the hobby.

I second the 33b. And I’d get him a few pounds of mixed agates and jaspers. These are great stones to start with and learn the ropes.

Go to brands are Lortone, and Thumler I have also heard great things about the Rebel 17. I personally have a Tumble-bee, and I love it. Another advantage to Tumble-Bee especially right now, I have never seen them out of stock on their website.

Greetings and Welcome from Bonnybridge, Scotland the same as my friend Andrewa! I cannot offer much other than another Lortone supporter also where to get your tumbler at short notice as most vendors are still out of stock and RTH Forums own Lapidary Vendors Worldwide.
