I read a previous post about how some of you add Borax to your rotary tumbler runs for a variety of reasons, but saw nothing for adding it to a Vibe. I'm running a 500 AO batch now and was wondering if any of you who use a Vibe have also added Borax to it? I'm thinking 1 TBS only and it would probably thicken the slurry some.
For those with Vibes, thoughts or feedback?
Thanks.

Hahaha, that's perfect Chad !! I'll do it too and if somebody asks me why, I'll tell them because Lumberlegs does, or that it's a Michigan thing.

I always add a tablespoon of borax to stages 3-5. I am not sure what it's supposed to do but my guess is that it is just a carrier for the grit.

I use it in the vibe with both 500 AO and Aluminum oxide polish when tumbling glass I don't use it when tumbling stone

I use it in the 500 aluminum oxide stage and in the polish stage. I think it does exactly what you said and thickens the slurry, making the grit stick to the rocks a little better and therefore being more effective. I use 1 TBSP in my 4.5 lb. Lot-O tumbler.

I aim for 1-2 tablespoons of powder in my Lot-o. In 120/220 that's grit (and soon mud, we know the story) ... But then when using so much less 500ao,1000ao(which I'm skipping lately) and polish, I make up that "bulk" with borax. I feel like it both cushions and carries the grit. I'm currently experiencing with a dowel adjustment on my lot-o so, depending on how a particular load is moving, I'll add 1 to 2 tablespoons in the later stages. (I feel like I too first heard about it from jugglerguy but I won't tag him in again. =)

Ok so I added 1TBS to the run yesterday and it did thicken the slurry sooner. I check my vibe in the morning and before going to bed to add water if needed. I noticed this morning when I checked it, it was running quite a bit slower, which would also make sense I guess.
Thanks for all the feedback!
