Well, I'd say you succeeded in the "lasting connection and heirloom" department, and I really like that idea. They will surely be treasured for generations. Did you finish the front and back the same way?

Thanks! For these, I just left the back unfinished. It had a decent matte finish from the saw so I just left it. Doing the backs isn't my forte but I know I should be spending time on it.
