I bought a Thumler UV-18 off of FB marketplace, turns out it is a standard. Is there anyway to make this work for rocks?

I'm not positive but I think the rock model has different springs and a thicker bowl? so probably a pretty easy swap.

From what I've read, there's quite a difference: - Bowl - Center post - Springs - Motor

I bought a Thumler UV-18 off of FB marketplace, turns out it is a standard. Is there anyway to make this work for rocks? Here's a write up on the 2 different versions and how to determine what you have. rocktumbler.com/thumlers/uv-18-industrial-or-standard/Note, I have the "Standard" model and have been using it for 3 or 4 years to run Polish stage for rocks quite successfully. Eventually wore out the thinner bowl and bought an industrial bowl as replacement. I never changed the springs or the counterweight. It continued to run Polish stage very well until the old motor died. Replaced it with a much sturdier looking motor that will hopefully translate to long life(fingers crossed). The new motor required a new counterweight design and a new attaching structure. It's running a test polish batch at the moment. In my case I only run the Polish stage so the lighter bowl and the shorter springs seemed to work well. Good luck

I would go ahead and replace the springs with heavier springs just to be on the safe side. They are not that expensive and not hard to replace. I had to put one in on one of the used UV-18s I bought as one spring was missing.
The other thing that I recommend doing is to put a good, tight rubber washer under the inside washer and nut to keep water from seeping through down in to the motor. I have this with the cheap vibe tumbler for cleaning gun shells and it worked fine. The plastic bowls do mot hold up well though.
