I made the feather with an Onglette graver. Each strake on the feather was individually hand engraved. The drum sticks were carved from .051 sterling. I chucked the wire in my handpiece, stepped on the speed control, and used a file to cut away and shape the feather. The drummer is with the band that played Uneasy Rider, and The Debbel Went Down to Georgia. He is coming to the shop Sunday. Great photo Sands.

A craftsman of exemplary stature is the only way to describe you.

You guys want to know the real truth? Sands is the real craftsman. Hands down. All I do is heat some metal, flow it together. Sands takes a rock and brings the beauty out of it for all to see. Sands is the artist. He proves it every day. It is so natural to him he underestimates his work. He lives for his craft.

I remember when I first joined this board, one of my main goals was to gain those precious stars below my name & a lofty title to match. Oh yes, that is what I wanted, or so it seemed at the time.
But, then I see what the true Masters here (Doc & Sands) have made with their very own hands. I see the love they have for their craft & the joy their works of beauty bring to others.
Then I take a long hard look at those simple stars below my name and the simple title to match. Knowing that it was mostly idle chatter that brought them to be & that they mean nothing to anyone but me. How trivial it all appears to me now.
I want to express my deep admiration & appreciation to the both of you for helping me to see what is really important in this thing we call life. I think I will go now & work on bringing some love & beauty into my own little space here on earth.
You two are works of art yourselves, that I can only hope to aspire to. Thank you for being who you are!

well since we're on the subject...
i'd like to thank doc and sands both for answering my goofy questions and making me feel welcome on the board...
i got into the tumbling because ultimately i'd like to be able to create objects using polished stones, silver and wood....i feel pretty fortunate to have found this board with so many knowledgeable folks who don't mind sharing the wealth...
thanks again gents...
