1. Agate Doublet — 42 x 29 mm What do you see? This was the center of a large Venezuelan slab that was much too thick to cab, but which also looked too thin to slab. I asked our club's shop steward if there was any way it could be sawed through the middle. "Give it to me," he said. He struggled with the vise, but finally managed to split it. The very center of one of the two halves was the only area worth cutting. It's backed with black jade.
2. Noreena — 36 x 25 mm I was attracted to the amount of red above the prominent hematite line, and how that contrasted with the lower area. This is the one that I almost entered into the triangle contest, and that was after recutting the bottom point that broke off when I dropped it. I seem to have difficulty selling Noreena. I wonder if others consider it a slow seller.
3. Olympic Poppy — 36 x 25 mm I recently acquired some rough with poppies that have black centers, much prettier than what I had been cutting.
4. Peanut Wood — 32 x 28 mm My first time working this material. The strange patterns didn't suggest a shape so I just decided to force the "flowing blobs" into a kite shape. I'm not sure that I'm in love with peanut wood.
5. Stromatolite — 32 x 21 mm "Why yes, of course, please take a yellow rose with you."

Gary, that Agate Doublet is one of the most stunning cabs I've seen! Seriously!! That one is beyond stunning!! The fluidity between the shape and the pattern is breathtaking!! If you picked up that Olympic Poppy Jasper off eBay a couple weeks ago, sorry for bidding you up on that one! There was a piece a couple weeks ago that had those same black dot centers! I wasn't happy I didn't get that one...but if it was you who picked it up, that lessens the sting a little!

I love them all, but that Blue Agate is a show stopper! Fabulous work, as usual. The Blue Agate kind of reminds me of a Georgia O'Keefe painting.

I like them all. I think I like the noreena best. Noreena sold pretty well for me. When it's good, it's very good.

Wow, the Agate Doublet is gorgeous! The yellow roses are elegant. Thank you! The agate sat on my bench for over two years before I got the courage to to cut it.

Yes, you and I were bidding against each other! The same seller had a second piece that he sold just last week, but I decided not to bid.

I'm familiar with some of O'keefe's work. Thank you for the compliment, Robin!

Thanks, Tela. Hmmm, I guess I'll have to try harder to sell it. Maybe some unusual shapes would help.

Thank you! I was really worried about encountering a crack in the stromatolite, but I was lucky.

WOW! That first one and the stromatolite are both gorgeous! The shape of the first one demands a vertical orientation, but if you turn it horizontally it would resemble a bit with an arctic scenery reflected into the flat sea.

I thought of Georgia O'Keeffe as well! I would be happy to have created any of them--all are stunning.

Nice cabs. Something about that first one though. Just can’t stop starting at it.

Blue aggie wins the night. Besides the obvious, it also exudes an undertone of The Scream.* * feel free to punch Munch into yer Funk ‘n Wagnalls, Jason.

Alright, which one of you just got the Gary Green “Freedom” jasper box from zippy?🤣 We oughta come up with a plan to go in on eBay buys and then split them! opalpyrexia I am also a fan of the first one! That is an incredible save and fun that it was a joint effort between you and someone who was able to slab it.👍

Anyone else see no plain text between Gary’s pics when viewing the white board?

Thank you, Susan, for your kind comment an underscoring the O'Keeffe similarity.

Thanks for that observation. I'll definitely use it, too.

Count me in too, that blue agate is stunning. My immediate impression, and when I look at it, I am reminded of the painting called “the scream” by Edvard Munch.
