Hello, forum newbie here. Have found this interesting lapidary forum and reading for a couple days now. Since ive become interested in Intarsia work ive been trying to learn and apply some of the techniques. I thought i would post a pic at my first attempts. Its been a little difficult and challenging getting a 90 deg flat on smaller pieces using my Crystalite 6” flat lap though. I’ll keep reading, learning and attempting additional pieces. Im intrigued by all the different combinations of materials and color combinations that can be used. Anyway, hope you all like the attempts.

Thanks Jason, was a bit challenging getting a flat flat 90, couldn’t use my thumb or forefinger for a few days after the borders but i’ll get it. and posting the pic took a few attempts also….lol I've got a flat lap...and have toyed with the idea of doing an intarsia piece...but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I'm going to need to stock up on band-aids first though...I know me! LOL

Very nice.
The bottom set is exquisite.
A lot of Intarsia seems to be backed by yet another solid stone.
I like that you kept it simple & just used thicker slabs to glue up.
I've been wanting to get started on Intarsia. So thanks for showing these.

Hi and welcome! I think they all look great and the last set is totally awesome! Great job. Keep going and posting your work. The more you do it, the easier it will get and you'll learn what works best for you.

Those are really nice. Beautiful piece of Larimar. I don't see much intarsia that looks like it's truly complimentary to the stones. The Picasso Jasper with the black sides is just perfect!

Very nice. 90 degrees does make things easier but as long as the join is good it and the material is thick enough it can be fixed. I use a 90 degree rest in the verticle lap I use, you might be able to slip a frame over the top of your lap with a "tool rest" to aid in making the angled stuff. I can try to find a pic of a rest that was made to fit on the Ameritool lap if you want.

Hey there, welcome to the forum! I love the instaria, those are very impressive. I definitely don't have the skillset for cutting instaria.

Thank you for all the comments regarding my first attempts at Intarsia and all the welcomes to the forums. These pieces are not backed as they are a bit thicker but i did finish on both sides…..my OCD kicks in often . Im working on a smaller or thinner multiple piece currently and its a bit tricker i find. My trend is normally drill, peg & post for earrings and pendant sets. thanks again, very nice forum.

Rockoonz , thank you for your post and yes i would very much like to see the tool rest for your verticle lap for angled pieces which ive been doing free hand which can be very touchy especially with smaller thin pieces. And speaking of a tool rest, i made one (rudimentary) last evening that fits in my Genie tray for the end lap. Havent tried it out yet but hoping it will work out for flat 90 deg. Im thinking i might be able to mark out or scribe lines (or tape) for different angles also. ive mostly used the 6” stand alone Crystalite and not the Genie arbor end lap. ps ill post a pic of my tool test as soon as i figure out how to do on a reply🤣

Best way is to just click the reply button and tag who you were going to quote using the @ sign right in front of the person's name. If you hover over a person's name, their tagging name will show up. Most are what you see on your screen, but there are a couple that are different. So Rockoonz would be @ rockoonz without the space in there.
