I forged a SS cuff bracelet years ago but never finished, kinda pushed it to the back burner so to speak. Originally planned on creating an inlay but ran into issues with the curvature of the bracelet combined with beveled or angle cuts on the stones plus trying to figure out what stones to use🤦🏼‍♂️. Several attempts on stone angle cuts done free hand on a flat lap mounted on the end of the Genie wheel. I either undercut or over cut. But i still keep looking at it on the bench as a “need to finish” job. Sometime after cutting the bezels to slide over the bracelet on each side before soldering i discovered i should’ve used triangular or square stock soldered to sheet stock prior to bending the bracelet. Live n learn i suppose but years ago there wasn’t much info out on making a inlay cuff. Currently thinking about using thinner width multiple stones for the inlay. Its one of those…”unfinished” jobs to do…..someday. The pics will show the undetermined stages its gone thru 🤣 any advise or critiques are welcomed.

Hmm. I think I’d probably start with that center stone. Shape (slight curve an top) and polish it. Then I’d individually cut and shape all the subsequent pieces on either side to fit nicely against the last piece. It sounds tedious and probably not the correct professional way, but doable. And then I don’t know about getting them “set”. Do you glue or is there a bezel edge on the cuff that can be pushed over the stones? If you finish it you’ll have something to be proud of even if it does have little imperfections!

You got a great start!! Have you looked on YT for any videos about making an inlaid cuff? There have to be some tricks to it.

I saw this video several weeks ago. I know, it's a tiny bracelet (ring) and not done with larger stones but interesting nevertheless. I want to do so much but am just building basic skills. Keep us posted!

I love intarsia, but don't have the skill for it. There are a couple people on here that are incredible with intarsia. Hopefully, they can offer some guidance. I'd suggest going back through some threads for inspiration

bgoodz if that is real turquoise I would slice it down a bit so you don't grind off any more than necessary. Maybe make it the thickness of the bezel and use a little epoxy to set it so it conforms to the base (I'd also weigh the stones prior to epoxying so there's no misrepresentation on weight). Also make sure the sides of the pieces are angled correctly so there's no gap between stones, unless you'd want to tint the epoxy and fill the gaps between each stone. This is a beautiful piece so far and I'm sure anything you do will be even more amazing!

There is not a lot on YouTube. Mostly chip inlay. I did find this: artistjefffulkerson.com/course-bi/order/I know he used to write articles for Lapidary Journal, but I haven't bought any of his classes. It's pretty expensive, but may be worth it?

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I hear ya NDK its getting the angle of the stones ground correctly for a nice snug fit thats the issue. I havent yet determined the layout of which stones to use and in what order. The center stone is Larimar and it can be tricky to work with. Ground a curve on the bottom to match the cuff curve and the plan is once the stones are epoxied then they will be ground down to about the height of the bezel. I’ll probably grind down and semi finish the Larimar stone prior to epoxy tho, incase it chips out on me. My mistake was making the bezel after forming the cuff. Ive now learned best would have been to use triangular stock soldered to cuff base stock then form the cuff. And fitting the stones to the curve is also an issue. There was an article in Lapidary Journal i saw online (i think) on a cuff bracelet but that was after the fact for me but it did give some helpful information. And yes hummingbirdstones i had paid and downloaded Mr Fulkerson’s video on cuff bracelets which was helpful in regards to grinding stone side angles as i hit a wall after making the cuff. Its just getting the angles correct. One of the reasons ive been using Howlite as i had a couple thick slabs and its not too expensive. I’ll get back to that project at some point. Its on my bench and keeps looking at me saying “come on” 🤣. Usually have a few different projects ongoing. I’ve had an interest in Inlay but Intarsia’s got my interest currently along with making other stone pieces for jewelry sets. Thanks again everyone, i appreciate the comments and input.
