Here are the cabs I've worked on the last couple days. As always, thanks for taking a gander! Regency Rose Plume Agate - These aren't backed as I thought the plumes were too dense for a backing to make sense. I had three more dopped, but they snapped in half during the initial grind...oops! LOL Regency Rose Plume Agate Doublets - Basanite backing Nydegger Plume Agate Doublets Arizona Petrified Wood - I got this from Rockoonz . Thanks Lee!! This was basically the shape of the slabette, so I just kind of knocked off the rough edges of the slabette! This is one of the best pieces of AZ Petrified Wood I've worked!! Mexican Royal Velvet Sheen Obsidian - This was a "practice" cab to see if the wheels were broken in enough to work some other obsidian pieces for another member. Group pic for size reference. Next batch of doublets ready to have the backing material cut.

Like them all. Black backed are stunning! Thanks! Thanks Pat! Good to hear you like the black backing...I have a few more I can do! LOL Good set. Like how that nydeggy came out Thanks my friend! I still have a couple more pieces you sent. A couple of the slabs aren't thin...and I haven't decided if I'm going to back them or cab them "as is"... That AZ wood is crazy cool! RIGHT!?! Thank you SO much! That piece was a little longer than what the finished piece is. Right at the bottom, a pit opened up in the girdle...so I had to keep grinding the very bottom little by little until I got through the pit. The bottom edge would have followed that linear pattern in the stone, but you can see how it got "rounded off" on the bottom left.

Beauties! That AZ wood is like none that I've ever seen. Outstanding! Thanks Robin! Same here! I've never seen anything like that pet wood! I've never really cared for any of the AZ pet wood I've worked...but if they were all like this one...well...I'd be singing a different tune!!! LOL Jason, wow. you are knocking em out of the park. Favourite, nope I'll pass on that, not possible to pick a best in that lot, they all are. Thanks Paul! This is a pretty diverse group...so it's hard for me to pick a favorite out of the bunch too! LOL *By the way, huge thank you for being willing to describe and show how you did that heart in the contest thread! That really was a fantastic cab...and great instruction as well!

Wow jasoninsd . Those are all amazing. What a difference in the doublets. Thank you my friend! I have a couple pieces from the same rock as the first two which are going to be made into doublets. I'm not sure if the moss is too dense...or maybe I can grind the top thin enough so the moss isn't as "cluttered". We'll see! They are gorgeous! Can not stop staring at the doublets... Thanks PS! I'm hoping this next batch has some more colors...like some pinks in them. I might experiment with a different backing...I'll post the results...good or bad!

Thank you *so* much for your sized photo--it really helps with envisioning the feel of the cabs. I started out liking the first two, moved on to admiring the next group but then. . .oh! That AZ wood! I've never seen any like that before--it's gorgeous!

I've never seen any like that before--it's gorgeous! Thank you SO much Susan! I can't get my phone camera to catch the true depth in those first two cabs. There's actually an open druzy in that first one. I cleaned it out really well, so it's not showing up in the pic. I should've taken a shot from an angle to show it. Yeah...I'm waiting to see if Lee chimes in about that AZ Pet Wood! I bet I could find a way to use another 20 pounds of that! LOL

Yeah...I'm waiting to see if Lee chimes in about that AZ Pet Wood! I bet I could find a way to use another 20 pounds of that! LOL I've probably got 20 pounds of it, but I'd bet the kitten from H*ll that none looks like that. That doesn't mean I won't be looking real carefully tomorrow, though!

Dang gorgeous set of cabs jasoninsd! You are really busting out doublets like it's nobody's business these days! It's neat to see the plume differences between the Regency Rose and Nydegger.

I can only echo what everyone else has said including the wood being amazing! Any advice on grinding the Mex velvet obsidian? Thank you my friend! If you're talking about "grinding", it works the same as any other obsidian. As far as slabbing it...therein lies the fun part (said quite sarcastically! LOL). If you're talking about slabbing, let me know...there's a couple ways to do it. Dang gorgeous set of cabs jasoninsd ! You are really busting out doublets like it's nobody's business these days! It's neat to see the plume differences between the Regency Rose and Nydegger. Thank you SO much! I just cut the backing preforms for another dozen or more doublets! I agree about being neat to see the difference in the plumes. I know Nydegger is a bit pricier than Regency Rose (Graveyard Point basically), but I think I actually like the doublets made from the GPP like in pics 4 and 5 the best. It's not the greatest of comparisons as the Nydegger that I have has a lot of "dense" plumes...and I know when there's a bit more agate, the Nydegger can be killer!
