Almost 3 years ago Mr Larson gave me a delft clay kit to try and I FINALLY did my 1st Sand casting! Didn't come exactly right, but I can use it. Came inside, watched a video and am ready to try again |

That was so cool watching the silver melt!
Not perfect but a usable piece from your first casting, that's something to be proud of.

It definitely is fun, but not as easy as you'd think. I tried again and it was worse than the 1st one. Then Nate gave it a go and that one didn't work.
Definitely have to keep the heat in the silver all the way into the pour.
I'll try again tomorrow

Ali, not bad for your first try! I'll just mimic everyone else -- it's something I've been wanting to try. I do know that you do have to keep the torch on the crucible while you're pouring. I also know that you have to make sure the silver is molten to the point where it makes a ball/blob in the bottom of the crucible and it will roll around the crucible if you tilt it a little. Kind of like mercury does.  Keep trying. You'll get the technique down soon enough. i can't wait to see what you cast! |

Nate and I got to visit him up in GM and as always it was a pleasure. Visits have been few and far between since he moved 😪 but I get updates of what he has been making and I'm sure he is lurking on here |

One of the things I didn't like was the small "mold". So NDK is making me a new one. I have a vision of what I want to do so we will see if it works    |
