So, Tela sent me a box of rocks to slab for her...and in trade, I got some of the material! Well...I got the rocks all cut last week, but the box to return to her is still sitting in my kitchen counter! She wanted me to wait to send them until Friday...but I got busy with some other stuff so I figured I'd get them out on Saturday. Ummm...on Saturday I was cutting out some preforms from my slabs of the material, lost track of time...and missed the mail lady. Okay...I'll get them out on Monday. Nope! Holiday! So I will be going down to the PO as soon as the open this morning! I really did feel a little guilty about cabbing these when I haven't even got her stuff out in the mail yet! But...I soldiered through the guilt and did them anyway! LOL rockjunquie - You're awesome! Thank you!! As always, thanks for taking a gander!  These first three are Imperial Jasper. Two different rocks. The first two cabs had some green around the edge, but was super soft...so it didn't make it into the cabs. The rest of the rock was normal. The third pic...that piece had some pits open up. I kept thinking I was going to stop working the piece because of them...but as you can see, I didn't stop! LOL    Indian Blanket Jasper - rockbrain , this wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be when I commented about IBJ the other day. There's a list of Hematite running through this piece.  Cinnamonstone aka Rosalinda  Turkish Dendritic Opal - Man this stuff wanted to crumble when slabbing it! But boy does it take a polish!  Lizard Skin Jasper - Softer than I anticipated. I did the initial grind on the 220 hard. (Thanks for the ID Robin! )  Pinolith - Man I love this material! It's super soft...as in you still have to be paying attention on the 1200 wheel! The second one is probably my second favorite out of the batch.   Needles Blue Agate - I have been waiting for a chance to work this material for quite a while! Holy crap is that gem silica hard! The matrix is really soft and does have some minor pits, but I don't feel it detracts from the overall pieces one bit!   |

Yeah, that elongated striped Imperial Jasper is one of my favorites from the batch! The way the banding looks, it has the illusion of a 3D effect! Wait until you do the initial grind on that! Your shoulders WILL be feeling it after that one! LOL |

Honestly...those cabs came from the "worst" slab of the Needles Blue that I have. (And when I say worst...that is a completely relative term...and NONE of the slabs were bad at all! LOL) Contrary to my normal behavior of wanting to work the best first, I wanted to see how this material worked before I attempted the "divine" stuff! (And no, I was not trying to imply something about your Biggs cab...but it does kinda fit! LOL) Yum! That striped Imperial claw is flippin' awesome! They're all awesome, but that one is super fine. The unknown may be Lizard Skin Jasper. Thank you my friend! Yeah...that IJ claw really came out great!! It's super tall (I forgot to take a size comparison shot...might do that later), so it was a bear to get that tip done while curved around the wheel! LOL THANKS! You nailed it! I knew I'd seen pics of that material before, but couldn't think of Lizard Skin! Gonna edit the post! |

Well, gee, another great bunch from which I can't pick a favorite. Jason, you've raised the "Oh My God" bar so high! So--I focused on shapes, and you are producing some incredible ones! But, I would be remiss without echoing the "Oh My God" on the Needles Blue Agate--amazing stuff I don't think I have seen before, and your creations are sublime.
