Thought I'd share a couple of images I made recently of old-time Carey Ranch Plume Agate from my personal collection. It's now as rare as a snake's legs and some newer members may never have seen examples. The round is 37 mm. and the oval measures 31 x 30 mm. Enjoy. ETA: Typo. The oval is 31 x 40 mm.

Had to come back on my lunch break and take another look. It’s an understatement how much I love plume agate. As the un-disputed king of plume, these get my approval 😂. Your post honestly got me all fired up to go spend the next couple months cutting nothing but Carey cabs. I’ve always held Carey plume as one of the high ranking kings of the plume agates. Especially since the location is in my hometown. Literally a 15 min drive from my house.

Thanks all. This material came from an old, old collection when the original Dad's Rock Shop in Arroyo Grande, CA had its closing sale after it sold to a new owner. Guaranteed it didn't come from realrockhound or his yard! But I really look forward to seeing cabs from the Carey that's hidden there. It's my all-time favorite plume as well but there are some very close seconds.

I should also give credit where it's due. The background for these images is a wonderful dogtooth quartz-blue fluorite specimen on loan to me from hummingbirdstones . I really appreciate the "borry" as Pogo the Possum used to say in the comics about borrowed items. In fact she may have trouble prying it from my cold dead hands. It's among several great specimens on loan from Robin and Vince for photo purposes.

(lol) gemfeller - I saw the background. Looked at the shot as a whole because I know your cabs are always great. Images here are great, too.
I would repeat the old truism that "everthing is for sale...", but I'd probably get re-educated when Robin read it.

But some of the stuff coming out of Indonesia is fantastic too. Here's one from Java I fell in love with. I'm trying to buy it but I'll probably come up short in the $$ department. Still it's nice to dream.

I've been seeing that stuff. It is exquisite. But I cant help but feel like its artificial. Some of the plume i've been seeing come out of there and the colors just look fake to me ya know. Like its dyed or something.

Like its dyed or something. Could be. Some of those sellers aren't renowned for honesty. But I have a little trouble figuring out how a piece like this could be dyed since the interior plumes are the same color as those on the surface. I'm also a little troubled that the image doesn't show scale. If I succeed in negotiating for it maybe we'll have some answers.
