I referred to those small Obsidian cabs I posted the other day as "headache" cabs. If that's the case, then these Batcave Jasper Cabochons were a migraine! LOL I had all kinds of issues trying to keep these things on dop. They just kept popping off!! This piece had some weird tube-like structures that were running through the piece!   There is a subsurface fracture going right across the middle. I don't believe it's a structural concern, so I went with it and finished it.  This piece was the biggest pain. It came off dop five different times! I had the original shape done, but didn't like the large dark brown middle. That's when I saw the fracture going across the top. I hate reshaping cabs, but I knew I had to with this one. So, I ground off the top, reshaped the dome, lowering it in the process and was super pleased with how the pattern ended up! It was a bear to get pics as the camera kept focusing on the reflection! LOL |

That last one LOOKS like it was worth the trouble, but they are all nice. Such nice material. I like the weird tubey looking one, too.

That last one LOOKS like it was worth the trouble, but they are all nice. Such nice material. I like the weird tubey looking one, too. Thanks Tela!  Finishing up that last one at 12:05am this morning was probably the best birthday present I could hope for today! LOL Thanks Dave! I got more and more excited as I was dropping the dome on that last one! I'm glad it stayed pretty well centered!! Those are amazing Jason. Love that shield 🛡️ Thanks Nate!! The pattern in that shield is what I think of when I think of Batcave Jasper cabs. But...you have GOT to have the dang slab cut perfectly in order for that to happen. To get that to happen when cutting the slab, you've gotta be really good...or really lucky in my case! LOL Those are nice. That’s Grade A+ material Thank you my friend! This is from that batch I got off eBay awhile back...some decent stuff...and then some "ok" stuff! |

Light on the back...dark was on top. The way the layers came out in the slab, I knew the most layers were toward to the dark side. If I had ground it with the light side up, I think it would have barely reached the darker layers. Beautiful! One of those has the Grinch peering out Okay...I've stared at them intently...and I don't see the Grinch! LOL |
