Trying to get my oscillating flat lap going. I plugged it in and it ran so I bought some new super balls for it. When I tried it again I realized the motor was bad. Pulled it and the motor is welded to the bracket. It was probably an assembly that you could buy at one time. Is it also has a cord coming out of the side of the motor with a switch on it. I started thinking maybe they needed to weld it to not break the mounts, but then the bracket that it's welded to is bolted to the machine with the little flat spring steel clip nuts on it. Just doesn't seem like a very good design.

Yes let us know. One of my new to me vibe laps is fouling up and looks to be a similar design.

What brand of Vibe Lap is it?. I am only familiar with the old style Lortone Laps. It seems odd to have extra lap hardware welded to the motor. Wonder if that was a custom after market fabrication.

It's a Raytech. Definitely a manufactured unit. I found a motor that should work. My first thought was to just grind it off and weld the new motor back in. It seems like that mounting bracket is pretty heavy duty, they even bothered to weld the corners, but then the bolts that hold in on are small.

Thanks so much QuailRiver. I hadn't been able to find anything. I was pretty confident I had found a proper replacement motor but the nameplate doesn't list the hp or rpm.

Thanks again QuailRiver. I just ordered the last available motor assembly from Rick. It wasn't cheap, but probably less than it should be. He said he's had the same price for the last 9 years or so. It's complete with the counterweight and everything so I just bolt it on and plug it in. It's more than I wanted to spend but I got the flat lap for practically nothing.

I'm glad that Rick was able to help you with the new motor. Being able to get one that just bolts on will probably save you enough time and labor to offset the costs versus trying to attach an odd motor to the original mount.

Yes and it will be better. The motor is pre-wire with the cord with inline switch coming out of the side of the motor. Nothing I could do with another motor would be as neat and clean. Probably only looking at $125 than just the bare bones motor with 2 wires hanging out the side of it when it's all said and done. I'm not sure what the total is with shipping.
