jasoninsdMan those are some real beauties Jason! A lot of variety in the shapes with them! Is the velvet sheen more grey in person or is it the greenish color?

The nellite is awesome!!! I like the crazy lace, too, though I am usually not fond of that variety. You did a beautiful job with it. Of course, the poppy jasper is cool, too. Is it Olympic Poppy Jasper?

Totally green sheen on that obsidian! It's really amazing in person! The nellite is awesome!!! I like the crazy lace, too, though I am usually not fond of that variety. You did a beautiful job with it. Of course, the poppy jasper is cool, too. Is it Olympic Poppy Jasper? Thanks Tela! Isn't that Nellite sick?!? It's super chatoyant!! I don't know about that PJ. I didn't think it was Olympic...I haven't seen any Olympic Poppy with that yellow in it. Not saying I've seen or know everything! LOL

Parralax in agate is always a treat in smaller fortifications, I hope it's nice and visible as you rock it.

It was in that little "eye" in the last picture where I saw it first...then I saw it in the other areas. I still get excited about finding a stone with Shadow Parallax! LOL

The Nellite is awesome! Great job on all of them, of course. I don't think that poppy is Olympic, either. Pretty stuff, wherever it's from.

I tried to do some searching, but couldn't find anything like that one! Literally, it's SO much like the MHPJ I've worked...it's pretty uncanny!

It's not unusual to find a one-off weirdo in rock.

jasoninsd - That is a great piece of AZ wood. The translucent type is right up there (almost) with the purples.

LOL Hmmmm… shadow parallax you say?? I googled it. Yark! Please explain in very simple terms. As far as I know how to explain it...it's where the light causes a shadow from one band in the fortification onto the next fortification. Here's a great video showing a BIG agate with the effect going on: jasoninsd - That is a great piece of AZ wood. The translucent type is right up there (almost) with the purples. Thanks Vince! I told Jonathan this piece (and that last piece I worked from Lee) kind of renewed my faith in Petrified Wood...as I just haven't worked all that many pieces of pet wood that I've been super impressed with due to fractures and pits in most of the pieces I've worked!

Is it seriously just an optical illusion? I really was under the impression it truly was a shadow being caused by the way the banding was formed in these particular pieces.

I really was under the impression it truly was a shadow being caused by the way the banding was formed in these particular pieces. From Wiki: Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight and is measured by the angle or half-angle of inclination between those two lines.[1][2] Due to foreshortening, nearby objects show a larger parallax than farther objects, so parallax can be used to determine distances. ETA: Maybe not exactly an optical illusion, but it has to do with the way our eyes see things.

LOL) So...basically it just helps if you look at them like this! LOL

Maybe it is like looking at your nose with one eye then the other. One eye at a time.
