Does stabilizing ruin the chatoyant effect of stones? I have a pietersite I need to stabilize.

That's a great question ... I would guess no. I'm purely guessing but I would think that for a relatively hard material like peitersite the stabilization would mainly be fixing cracks and not seeping into the composition of the material like it does with something chalky like turquoise.

That makes sense. After my first batch, I will see how the CJ works for those tiny spiderweb fractures. Then I'll test some pietersite.

Again, just guessing here, but I would think it would help. It will help the polish and that helps show everything better. I have some Labradorite to do. I worked a couple cabs yesterday. The material is much better than I though it would be, but has a lot of tiny pits. I figured the flash will be even better with those filled in and not diffracting light.

Tela, I think it should be fine. Pietersite is not porous, so the CJ will only go into the fractures. The rest will grind off as you work your cabs.

I have some pietersite that's been stabilized and it didn't interfere with the chatoyancy. I didn't do the stabilization, but it looks like it was done with an epoxy mix. This is just a slightly educated guess, though. I've also stabilized labradorite with Opticon, and it didn't impact the chatoyancy.
