Still intrigued with Intarsia and trying my hand with it. Mainly have done a few with borders only as i like the contrast and extra element add to a featured stone. The first set of pendant and earrings is Burro Creek Agate with Basenite. The pendant is backed with Basenite and ER’s finished both sides. The second piece could be a pendant but no plans for it yet. It has a Veriscite center with Howlite and Basenite tapered banding. Wanted to try first time tapering to a slim point. Borders and backing is Basenite also. Dont want to admit how many hours went into these (dent track em but i know a long time…lol). A lot of trial and errors. Grinding and re-grinding, stop and starts. Finished the Burro Creek pendant, looked at it and thought….Nahhhh, the proportions are off. Ground the borders off and started over. Learn as you go, and man have i been learning….the hard way 🤣🤣. Anyway, hope you likes, comments and suggestions welcomed. Thanks for viewing .

Beautiful job on those Bill. I can't imagine the amount of grinding and fitting it took to bring all those points together so flawlessly!

Thank you Tela rockjunquie for viewing and comments. Yes, Im using and becoming more aquainted with the flat lap. Only used it in the past when needed as im more of a wheel guy but i do go to the wheels when getting towards the end stages.

Thank you for viewing and nice comment. Ima attempting a new venture. bgoodz - Bill, that pendant is astounding!! I think you did a stellar job on the taper! Way to go!! Seriously worth the effort! It only gets easier with each one you do...right...hopefully...fingers crossed it works like that! LOL Thank you Jason jasoninsd, Im hoping it works like that too😊. Planning a next, maybe combining some intarsia and half domes. And pondering ways to speed the process up a bit😉 Beautiful job on those Bill. I can't imagine the amount of grinding and fitting it took to bring all those points together so flawlessly! Thank you rockbrain. It is a multiple multiple step process but intriguing also. You become friends (somewhat) with the flat lap.😊

You did a fabulous job on those! They look wonderful. Kudos to you on your patience and skill! Thank you Robin @ hummingbirdstones for viewing and kind words. The second piece was to just see if i could. Dont really care for the dark spots in the Howlite. Scrounging around my rough & slabs to see what might be next.

Very nice work.👍👍 I really like the dainty little earrings in your set. On your intarsia, what grit flat wheel do you do your seam edges to? And I imagine some method for ensuring a 90 degree angle to the wheel would be helpful. And then are you just super glueing them together? Again, very nice.

Super nice, I know from experience that soft/hard combos like the variscite and howlite with the basinite are quite challenging.

I’ve been using the 260 grit dia disc which has worked the best for me and it produces minute scratches on the bonding surface which i think gives the epoxy a little bit more to bind to. Yes on the 90 deg. My method to date is eye hand coordination. I get eye level with the flat lap and keep a close eye on the slant and 90 deg. Its very easy to tilt, very light pressure and check check check. I’ve built a gizmo for the Genie with the vertical lap on the end arbor but its not to useful grinding small strips. I plan on making something for the Ameritool Lap to assist with the 90 deg flat strips. Some on the Forum have done this and its inviting to try. On the glueing I use Epoxy 330 and make some carbon to mix in for black. Recently tried some India Ink Black with the 330. Those look amazing! Awesome job! Thank You ashleyWOWSER, great job you done there ! Great job on these pieces! Getting the points or “darts” uniform, which many struggle with, can be difficult but yours came out great. Very nice job technically and the color coordination is excellent👍
