Howdy! Someone on TikTok suggested getting the extended warranties for the Hi-Tech saw as she's gone through two motors I just bought the 6" saw and 8" lap. Thoughts on getting the extended warranty for each are much-appreciated!!

I guess, a lot would depend on the cost. Are they actually worth the investment?

That seems like a lot, but it's up to you. I have the other brand saw and laptop- Ameritool. I have been happy with them. They have been pretty abused- especially the flat lap. My son used it extensively. No issues with it. I can't speak to yours, but I haven't heard of a lot of problems with those, either.

How long have you had your Ameritool? Appreciate you answering all my questions!

Man, I hate extended warranties! But it depends on how much the replacement motor costs and if you could afford to replace it or if it would put a big hit on your finances. I usually go by the advice of Consumer Reports. They usually suggesting putting aside money for repairs rather than getting an extended warranty. I always think that no manufacturer is going to lose money on an extended warranty. So, on average, you would be better off not getting the extended warranty. However, if you had multiple failures, you could end up spending a lot more. All a matter of risk.
The car business may not be a good example, but I bought a truck almost 4 years ago now. I think the price I agreed on was something in the $37,000. The extended warranty they first offered was over $4,000. That's more than 10% of the value of the car. I told the salesman that the quality of their cars must have really gone downhill if they needed that much money for an extended warranty. Anyway, I kept saying no and by the time we were done, they were offering the same warranty for under $2,000 (they said this was $50 over dealer cost). So, they were going to make $2,000 profit on the warranty for doing absolutely nothing because it was a manufacturer's warranty. And even at that, the manufacturer isn't going to be losing money on it.
Sorry for the long diatribe.
Chris

So did you end up buying it at basically 50% off? The gal who told me she replaced the motor twice on her 6" Hi-Tech Diamond trim saw ended up spending almost the cost of the saw to get it fixed! She now has a Lortone trim saw with external motor in waiting when the 3rd Hi-Tech motor croaks. I'm still thinking but have only 2-3 weeks left to make up my mind. Perhaps I'll take a chance and replace it with something more durable in the future. I don't plan on using it a lot as the garage is 90°+ all summer. Bleh... Thank you, Chris!!!!

No I did not get the warranty even though it was 50% off. By that time I was so irritated that I wasn't going to agree to it if they gave it to me for 75% off. Plus, who knows if the statement that it was $50 over dealer cost was true.

Didn't do that right but here are my thoughts.

Someone going thru 3 motors is clearly abusing their equipment. I have a CabKing (also made by the parent company of HiTech). Only trouble I have run into is I had a faulty ground fault plug. I contacted them and they replaced it no questions asked (it was still under warranty) When I took apart the faulty unit I discovered a stuck micro switch that was repaired with a squirt of penetrating oil and some di-electric grease. I am coming up on 3 years with the CabKing and it has been wonderful. Another note on extended warranties is they do not cover abuse. One of the "abuse" factors is water damage. So you are using a wet saw (or lap) and the motor fails and they find moisture damage (or moisture period) warranty voided!
