Was going to try to smooth the edges of a sphere before i put the grinding cups on. This was what happened within 2 seconds. I know they are polishing cups but I had no idea how fragile they were. I do now. These are 6" cups and cost me over $200. And this is on the heels of busting off a grinding tip off of a 5" #80 grinding cup a few weeks ago. Hoping my replacement cup comes in today.

I dunno… I still feel like they shouldn’t have broke like that. Seems defective to me. I’d ask for a refund.

Find someone to blame it on and you'll feel better. I suggest jasoninsd would make a mighty fine scapegoat. Wonder if they have any kind of warranty.

I picked up a few core drilling bits from HD, I abuse the heck out of these things when truing up the sphere, I never lost a tooth. What brand are these?

I never had one come apart quite like that before either. I agree with some of the other comments that it is likely a bad cup. There was probably a micro-fracture or small void in it from the manufacturing process.
