Pretty serious threat today in the south. jamesp heads up Is there a link? I didn't see anything in the headlines. Sorry Tela, I missed this reply. I follow a couple severe weather channels and they were posting today's convective outlooks earlier. These are both sites that are handy for viewing severe weather forecasts. www.spc.noaa.gov/
Looks like their site isn't loading the preview atm...

Okay...I have to start working on my "southern" drawl! LOL It's pretty easy. Things I learned from Vince: Say y'all or all y'all (plural) a lot. If someone asks you about a location, say yonder. When talking to or about someone who says something stupid, exclaim "Bless your heart" or "Bless his/her heart". All with a little bit of whatever you consider a drawl. Every state's drawl is a little different.

My late step father in law was a true Virginia Gentleman. I used to love his accent. Sadly, ya just don't hear it too much anymore. My Mom and grandparents were from Maine. That's another accent that is going away. When I was growing up, I always wondered why she called our dog a dug. LOL!

Sometimes I have to really listen to understand what he's saying. Vince had an accent too, but not as heavy as his dad's.

Using the app www.rinkworks.com/dialect/dialectt.cgi I converted Tela's above remark to redneck: Mah late step Pappy in law was a true ole Virginny Juntleman, as enny fool kin plainly see. ah used t'love his accent. Sadly, ya jest doesn't hear it too much ennymo'e. Mah Maw an' gran'parents were fum Jawja. Thet's t'other accent thet is gwine away. When ah was growin' up, ah allus wonnered whuffo' she called our houn'dog a dug, acco'din' t' th' code o' th' heells! LOL! Fry mah hide! hummingbirdstones - When a bunch of southern magnolias(older southern ladies) are having a conversation(gossip session) and one of them(especially a yankee) makes a perceived stupid or unliked comment another may say to her "Well bless your heart." which can really mean "would you shut up" or "you are a loser" or worse. Talk about being catty. I don't know why us southerners kick people's feet out from under them in such gracefully veiled vocalizations. Believe it or not a lot of this jargon comes from our Bible Belt background where a strong heir of hypocrisy is rampant lol. So sorry to hear about Vince. Here is a partial list of often-used southern expressions and their origins from the glossary of an old timer's(Peter Ruckman)southernish reference Bible: Yes Son Of Beach the storms have been aggressive this year. More so just west of Georgia in Mississippi and Alabama. This is about the 6th large tree that they managed to blow down just this year last week. A 400 foot tall cell tower got hit by a twister close by and crinkled it into a ball of wrinkled metal. Seemed like central US got slammed by tornadoes too. Someone mentioned Ryan Hall as a good weatherman to get warnings from. We watch him. Also lots of rain here, the squash plants are big as volkswagens. Freezing squash casseroles(add lots of cheese and eggs, can't go wrong )

It's been almost solid rain for what seems like 3 weeks. Lots of rain! Had some bad storms, but we've dodged tornadoes. However, I was standing on the back porch just as hail started pummeling us. Some of it was pretty big. Scared the crap out of me cause you know what follows hail....

Nature is impressive. But sometimes in cases like above, it just flat out sucks. No where near the tragedy like happened with the tornados. But an example of nature sucking, yesterday the sky’s opened up and we had flash flooding through town. The water got so high it came over the curb and was coming into the gym when I was working out. My poor low body mustang was parked out front and water came in and started pooling up on my floor boards. Damn you nature.

It definitely sucks, but compared to others like people who dealt with those tornadoes, it’s nothing more than a minor inconvenience. I was able to get home and fix the problem

You guys may want to keep an eye on the water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico this year come August/Sept. Last year it got up around 88F to 89F (I think) which is higher than historical. Hurricane size/strength correlates closely to water temp, an accurately measurable parameter. The Ivans and Katrina super storms and others in recent years are real monsters.
Ian hit real warm water and never slowed down from class 4 last year until it was well inland as did Michael in 2018. This is a new warmer water phenomena and much more threatening.

"As this Southern boy tells his Greek students, “συ [su] means you and ὑμεις [hymeis] means y’all.”" "You's guys" or "youz guys" is typical north of the Mason-Dixon. Apparently it is an expression that is just as slang as "y'all".
