Here are links to a couple of his videos. If you like rockhounds who are laid back, funny and get excited (but not overly so) about finding rocks - I think that you will really like this guy. I'll say that he is up there with my favorites (Michigan Rocks, Montana Rock Mom, Agate Dad and Rockhounding Life).

The advice he gave me was to find dirt/gravel roads that fed off of Hwy 59 between Kenedy, George West and Hebronville.
I also found some along Hwy 83 between Laredo and Zapata. Whenever I saw rocks along highway cuts or ditches, I would stop - usually finding something.

Awesome finds! I'd say you had a successful hounding trip, even if it was cut short by the c-word. Hope you're over it and feeling better.

See Darwin Dillon's Texas collection on flickr. He is master of the Zapata/L Falcon area.

Cool materials. I really like the last ones. Are you going to tumble or cut them?

Wow. You found some beautiful rocks. I did not realize that it was well known for rocks. And I love the agatized palm wood. On a side note. A couple of months back I went to the Suwannee River and put in at White Springs hoping to find the spot with coral that you talked about in several of your posts. I couldn't find it at first because the river was so high. Turns out that it had risen 4-5 feet due to rains. But, I looked at photos that you had posted showing an overview and was able to identify the spot because of the cypress trees and rock overhang further down the river. I couldn't actually see any coral in the water since it was so stained, but I did manage to use my feet to find more than enough to bring home. I took a rock hammer (and eye protection) but didn't use the hammer at the site. So I ended up carrying a lot more weight than I needed to. I thinned them out when I got home and have enough to fill my 12 pound tumbler a couple of times. I look forward to going back when the water is lower and clearer, but wanted to say thanks for posting those photos and instructions on how to find the spot.

Cool materials. I really like the last ones. Are you going to tumble or cut them? Thank you. I will do a bit of both. I have a 12 pound tumbler so I'll be able to get some of the larger pieces of pet wood polished. Others I will cut and polish on the flat lap.
