My Raytech 10" is probably 50 years old and I had already tapped out the hole in the brass half nut but to really do it right you have to make each side thinner or the screw just wears out easily again. I did so ten years ago and when it wore out again I got a new slit nut assembly from Rick Scott who still makes these fine saws and has most parts you might need. Not cheap, new split nut assembly was $79 plush shipping. Now it will likely outlast me.

Yes, I forgot to mention in my post about retapping the threads, I also sanded down one of the halves a bit to better grip the threads on the screw. Just rubbed the half on some 120 frit sand paper laying on a flat surface. I uses calipers to monitor how much I was removing. I didnt have to remove much, I think it was maybe 5 hundredths of an inch.
