Who says basalt/gneiss won’t polish up? If you look closely at these, the foreground rocks all have horizontal reflections that are very light, kind of like a hockey stick with the blade on the right. It’s a reflection of the house siding behind me. The reflection is quite sharp and not blurred, and shows you better the level of gloss on the rock surface. I don’t know why cell-cameras get so messed up by reflected sunlight. I know they are full of cracks and such, and not showy rocks, but they were free.

Dang, those turned out nice. Basalt finishes tend to vary from rock too rock in my experience, and I live in one of the places with the highest quantity of it in the world.
