Got the machine going again after nearly a year. Found this rock on our property that I thought was Mahogany Obsidian, but my gut instinct said otherwise because while it appeared to have been tumbled, it lacked the right fracture patterns and density for volcanic glass. It has the appearance of Mahogany Obsidian, but now that it's polished, the black areas reflect more like Hematite (of course this doesn't show in the image, rocks are always camera shy!) Anyway, now I just need to get water in/out of my trim saw so I can make some more rough cabochon size rocks to work with. and maybe get a new camera. My iPhone 7 has seen better days. (edit: I should probably add that I wasn't aiming for anything special with this. I was just testing the machine out to see how good/bad the wheels are etc. I know the polish is pretty rough. Didn't even use a dop stick for this one. It's about 1.5" across. )

I see the hematite. An interesting find. You did a nice job on the polish.
How did it feel being back at the wheels?

It was a little nerve wracking, but that's more because the machine needs a bit of fine tuning. The bottom of it is uneven, so it tends to wander. I'll be fixing that soon

Could it be Jasper with Hematite? Jaspelite? We have some in Wisconsin that looks similar.

Great job getting back on the wheels! It's been about a week for me...but it feels like it's been a year! LOL

neural it looks like some of the red jasper and hematite that can be found on Mingus Mountain. You did a real nice job on that without a dop stick. Polish looks real good to me.
