That is gold county, Eldorado Canyon area. One of the few places in Nevada where you can find gold that can be seen with the naked eye. Most gold in Nevada is microscopic. The area was hit by a major flash flood in 1974 killing 9 people. We had Jeeps and could have explored a bit, I saw a lot of dirt roads branching off 165. We stayed in Boulder City and the next day drove down to Laughlin to visit Grapevine Canyon. A short walk to some terrific rock art, 800 to 150 years old.     |
