So I'll start out with the lesson, I have this cool chrysocolla flavor that I got a number of years ago from a guy digging it. I call it spiderweb chrysocolla. I got a nice cab out of it and thought I was home free to get a wrap done before my sister came to visit. When I finished the cab, I thought that it was a little pointy at top, but then again the wrap would cover that , so no worries.
WRONG. Would you believe that while working on the top bail, obviously with me pushing too hard, I broke the top 1/4" off the cab ! Words were expressed, but not repeatable in polite company, and my sister was coming in only a few more days. So on to plan B - Unbelievably I was able to get the woven wrap undone enough, and refit it to a smaller, and equally nice Chrysocolla cab I made a couple of months ago. Since the new cab was smaller, I as able to shorten the already cut locking border wires & bail & I don't think in the end you could really tell ! I got it in the box the night before she arrived ! , and felt pretty good that I pulled it off. Lesson, if you THINK a cab has any issue - fix it, it won't be covered & might just come back to haunt you ! Thanks for looking & hope you got the "point",

Both were beautiful stones, liveoak Patty! Too bad the first one cracked. Don't feel too bad though. It's happened to all of us at least once. The pendant turned out great. I bet your sister loved it!

I bet your sister loved it! Thanks Robin, I was just happy I as able to retrofit the first wrap on the second, otherwise she wasn't going to get a complex woven wrap, that's for sure.
She did like it & on the way out in the airport, the TSA security guard woman ogled it as well , which made my sister feel even better.
I was happy.

Great story, great lesson and great pieces. Yeah, that chrysocolla complex is ridden with hidden fractures just waiting for you to break it. But, you did a stellar job repurposing the wrap. If you hadn't said so, I wouldn't have known. I'm not surprised your sister loved it.

liveoak I *love* a save even more than I love a good wrap! What a great job you did moving on to Plan B (or Plan C). Kudos for not throwing it at a wall!

Thanks Tela rockjunquie many lessons learned -main one, don't give up, & always, always, always have a second cab in the wings Thanks also Susan susand24224 , I won't lie I went to bed pretty discouraged & decided the next evening it was worth a shot to try and repurpose the wrap.
Since of course with company coming, there was too many things to do - finishing paying work, cooking & cleaning to do,
that I had an entire 24 hours before I could get back to it & by then I figured it just better work ! The only other C plan I had was to try and pull off any wrap.
I was just glad it worked.
AND, I learned a little more about wrapping & unwrapping

Nice save!! Yeah, much chrysocolla is not so stable unless it's the pricey gem silica type. I have had it crack from bezel setting or having finished jewelry piece fly off buffer. Frustrating! Your ability on the save is incredible!

That's a beautiful wrap. It sure is nice when you put in a lot of wire work and can still use it. I can't tell.
