First, nice piece of coral you posted!! If you'll give me a couple days, I'll get some pictures of the milk crates full of Prairie Agates I have. They're not really agates...that's just the name of them. They're actually banded chert or banded jasper. If that's something you're interested in after seeing the pics, we can work something out. I will warn you, everyone who has tumbled these knows they take a LONG time to tumble because they're SO freakin' hard...but boy do they shine amazingly well!! (They're one of those materials that IF you have a way to "pre-grind" them, it saves a bunch of time tumbling.) Thank you very much! I definitely want to see pictures of the prairie agates! Haven’t heard about or seen those yet. I love rocks that take forever, more room for fixing errors lol. I have not tried any pre-grinding yet. But I have slowly gathered together the basic tools for it, so need to try. Thanks again! Velo, sorry this took forever. I didn't forget! Well...I was going to take pics the other day, but my wife said to wait until the sun got higher...so I waited...THEN forgot! LOL I couldn't wait for the sun to hit them to get pics later this morning...but here are my crates of Prairie Agates (by size) without the sun hitting them. LOL

My wife and I have been looking at them and both of us would really like some. So let me know what you need and what you’re willing to let go. I did not know these things existed lol. Thank you very much, Jason!

WOW!! That sponge looks great!! And, that Llanite definitely has the most brilliant blue crystals I've ever seen, and I have about 100lbs of the stuff! Those corals are nice too. I'm gonna share all these photos with my wife and daughter, so we know what to look for when we are out hounding!! Thanks!! Looks like we are getting a lot of rain this weekend, so it might be 2-3 weeks before we get back out. Though, I love going up to Llano after a good rain!! Also, my wife is from San Antonio, but she didn't start rock hounding until we met, so if you wouldn't mind sharing some spots down there at some point I would appreciate it.

We haven’t found more than a few pieces of Llanite, but I had a feeling that one was kind of special. We’ve only been doing this for a year and it’s hard for us to go far right now. Our trip to the Llano River and the Colorado river around Austin have been the farthest we’ve been able to go. My wife is a recent cancer survivor and I have a fused cervical spine and bad nerve damage. We have had six surgeries between us in the last 18 months. We also have her 10 year old daughter to raise. Much of what we find is just around town…road sides, parks, construction digs etc. The kid and I also like to hit rock yards. The ones nearby label what part of Texas the piles of rocks come from and let us pick through them. This year is a recovery year, after two extremely hard ones, and we are hoping to start doing more next year. Meanwhile, we do the best we can. One thing I can tell you that is relatively easy to find in San Antonio are fossils. But often they are completely encased in lime and other white calcium type stuff. Same with the decent rocks. I’ve just gotten used to what to look for on the outside. Then I soak the rocks that I think may be something good in 20% strength vinegar, followed up by lime away. I’m going to get some muratic acid soon because I know how much better it works. Sorry I can’t be much help…

Thank you very much, Jason! Cool! If you'll give me a couple days, I'll get a MFRB together for you guys. When you get a chance, PM me y'all's address. Here's my "favorites" dish that sits on the coffee table. Most of these are Prairie Agates. There's some Crazy Lace, Botswana Agates, Bubble Gum Agates, and other stuff in there too...but the majority is Prairie Agates.

dillonf If you guys would like it, I’d be happy to send you some of the things that we’ve found. We definitely have extras. I bet your wife would get a kick out of it. I have a good amount of petrified wood also, as well as the banded chert that you’ve seen and other interesting Texas rocks.

Day rockhounding trips to me are like little treasure hunts. Central Texas has more interesting rocks than any area I have lived in so there are some good rocks to find. I found a chunk of Llanite on my last outing.

I had not thought of that…but yeah, you’re right. Much is dug up and then spread about. Thanks!
