Should I cut this with the seam that's on the side or perpendicular to it?

I don't collect or have specimens, I have inventory. If you are planning to slab the piece make a test cut with your best guess and then adjust fort the second cut.

@currentlyrockhoundin has a video on this. Can’t remember the name but it’s one of his earlier ones, scroll way towards the beginning of his content.

I already have a job and a business. All my inventory is at my shop and it has to do with air conditioning and metal work. This is a hobby for me and this is a specimen. I appreciate anytime anyone takes the time to read and comment. I guess I can't say the best guess advice sucks because you qualified it. Thanks.

The crystals have the look of being Smoky. Difficult to tell for sure, I always look at the tips of the points, if they are smoky it will show up there and not be picking up color from the base material. Same works for the Amethyst Choyas, the crystal can pick up the blue gray from the base agate and appear to be amethyst.

That’s cool! Are you going to polish the cut face?

Yes, I already did it. Pretty easy when they're this small.

Looks like you cut it just right. If you had cut perpendicular to that cut you would have ended up with two little "caves" that you couldn't see the end of.

That's gorgeous! Love the color inside. I have several that I cut that have real pretty clear crystals - love the smokey. I always struggle with knowing the best way to cut my rocks. This video is helpful! Thanks for sharing.

Turns out it was hollow. I did watch the video first. So, out of curiosity, how did you orient the "seam" when you cut it? Did you cut directly through it? I watched the vid as well, and you only had one ridge to work with that I could see. I'm still confused.

I've always cut from the "pimple" to the "dimple" as you did with this one.
