I purchased a slab box from Dr DG, a month or so ago. And only now really digging into it.
My hardness test is a crude cheap one from Amazon But this first slab tests around 5
Next one tests around 7 It looks like tourmaline crystals in it.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Patty

I’m probably wrong, but the first almost looks like it could be marcasite maybe and the second tourmaline in quartz. That’s my stab at it.

Definitely tourmaline in quart for the second one - granite.

Thanks realrockhound & RickB . Tourmaline in quartz it is ! I did a google search for marcasite, and found some cabs that look something like that, so I'll agree a definite maybe. Thank you,
Patty

The first looks like a lower grade Nipomo Marcasite to me.

Thank you lapidarycentral . I think I have to put one of these slabs to my "to cab" pile, so I can see what it looks like polished up & pretty so we can really tell.
