Very early 1900's but it's a workhorse. It's a camel back drill press. Common design for the large ones back then. A lot of this stuff would be set up originally to run from an overhead shaft with flat belts. Typically the shaft was driven with a gas engine. It's out of my Grandfathers black smith shop in Nebraska. I also got his Little Giant power hammer.

Thanks jasoninsd . I ended up with a lot of really heavy stuff! My brothers came out for the last time to clean out my dad's end of the shop. I ended up with a Little Giant power hammer (1800 lbs) also from my Grandfather's shop. I got a lot of blacksmith stuff, 2 anvils, a gas forge, 2 coal forges, a ridiculous number of hammers, tongs, hardies. A floor mounted scroll bender, and just a crap load of tractor parts and antique tools. A couple of parts tractors, a couple of old gas engines. Several post drill presses, a few leg vices. Lots of steel. Kind of overwhelming but I'm finally getting a handle on it.

Did all this stuff come from Nebraska recently?? - Just looking at that list, I would think it would take a full rail car on the train to haul all that back to your neck in the woods!!

No, all of it's been there for a while. My dad was actually in a care home for 3 years before he passed last year. This stuff's just been sitting waiting. I've moved a bit of stuff already. Got rid of the two old tractors out back and those suckers were heavy! This is just the stuff that I ended up with. When my brothers were involved we sold a real old model T truck, a model T touring a completely restored John Deere model D on steel. And another John Deere that was partially put back together. A smaller Little Giant hammer that needed refurbished. It was a 25 lb. This one is a 50 lb. It's been completely redone. My dad took a rebuild class at the Little Giant place in Nebraska (or Minnesota, not sure). And the hammer I kept is like brand new. I'm going to keep most of the blacksmith stuff for now. I will be getting rid of the coal forges. Some of the stuff should be real easy to sell. Blacksmith stuff is still pretty hot.🔥 (Pardon the pun) I've got a metal lathe which I think will go pretty well. Unfortunately there's a lot of parts that I have no way to ID. Lot of good stuff that some of it will probably have to be scrapped. I hate to do that with any antique stuff, but if you don't know what it is it's not a much use. Of course some of the big gears and stuff like that people like to sit in their garden. These pictures are just a really small sample, and some of its deceiving. That buzz saw has a 36-in blade.

The LG company as it exists now had a chance to buy all the blueprint, foundry patterns and handwritten sales notes. I emailed them on Saturday and got a reply on Sunday. My hammer was originally shipped to California on July 2, 1942. Somehow it made it's way back to Nebraska then back out to California!

Guess what your power hammer did in 1942-1945 and why it was for sale sometime after that. Congratulations on the hardware. If you have the space to store it, and the time to play with it, and the resources to afford it you are a fortunate person. As we say in the bicycle world "Steel is real".
